It's possible it's a damaged wire in the pump harness assembly, which is a known issue on early FL2s.
Just for information. According to the sale of good act, you'll need to tell the purchaser that the fault exists, as you know about it, and have posted it's existence on a public forum.
The purchaser could demand their money back, and any additional expenses if you don't tell them in advance. They're also within their rights to take you to court over the matter, which will add more costs than simply fixing the fault correctly in the first place.
When I sold mine, I replaced rebuilt the top end of the engine for the next owner, so I knew there would be no comebacks. The new owner is now happy with his purchase, which is the way it should be.
