When removing the fuel tank on my Discovery, I found the pipe connections from the pump/sender to be rusty and as a result they just snapped when I tried to undo them -bugger :(

Anyhow I need to sort this out.

Mine seems to be the large serpentine  pump. I didn't know there was a fuel pump in the tank. I thought the lift pump was all that was needed. Anyhow is there a way to replace just the pipes or do I need to get the whole jobby?

Cheers

it isnt a pump unless petrol but uses similar unit ,best fix is a new sender unit ensure you get new nuts and olives if using original pipes ,but a hose can be secured using hose clips if bypassing sedimentor

Can I get by with just the sender unit from 300 TDI then? I have been looking and they seem the same but the 300 unit does not have the large bulbous bit at the bottom, which, following what you said, must be where the fuel pump for the petrol version is sited.

wiring socket is different ,although unit should fit ,ive also removed pump replacing with a pipe off petrol ones to use when desperate and joined wires ,but most used units have corroded metal pipes

Cheers. Guess its a new unit to be safe eh otherwise I will run the risk of bad pipes OS secondhand one.
