Mines had a bit of a high pitch whine for the first 5 secs or so for around the 2 years I've owned it, only when fuel is on the lower side if I recall. Done about 30k miles in those 2 years and it's never hesitated to start or pull. Not sure if it's the original pump but I just put it down to having to suck the fuel further from the bottom of the tank and less fuel around it to deaden the noise it makes. Whether it's normal or not I don't know, but I'll drive it till it does give up anyway.

Just a quick update today it became hard to start with the five accelerator pedal pumps to start purging before it started even then as I was cranking it was foot down until it caught and revved, got 10 miles back home so instead of throwing money at parts it’s booked in for Monday as local garage to at least pinpoint fault, I’m thinking injector seals?

Just another update, got the injector seals changed and now starts perfect and no more pump noise. O rings were flat but not terrible but 4 out of 5 washers were very flat and worn looking.
