Eyup,
K Series 2001.

I took the rear seats out last spring and put a full length 1/2" ply floor in with a bulkhead behind the front seats.
Over the last few weeks when starting and for up to 15 minutes, I can hear what I think is the fuel pump whining (like it does as you run out of petrol).

What is the average life of the fuel pump on a 1.8?

Does a failing pump drone before it packs in or does it just die/fail gradually (like a 3.9 Disco)?

Cheers,
Gerald :D

13 years is good, some can go in five, its the luck of the draw, but sounds like its on its way out.

They all drone to some extent, more obvious with the seats down,
your board is probably amplifying the noise a little.

Plus when the pump rubber seal hardens, it allows more reverb through the floor/deck.

Keep driving, start worrying when it doesn't hum ;)
