can anyone give me any advice. got in the freelander this morning and it wouldnt start. looked under the engine and i can see a pool of petrol that looks like its pouring out when i turn the engine over. is there anything i need to be looking for under there or is it just fuel pipes. its a 1.8 k series. cheers

If you can wriggle under the vehicle try and trace the fuel line back to the rear from the inlet manifold. It could be damaged.

Check the fuel pipe's connection to the inlet manifold: it has a red snap on connector, all secure?

When you turn the key on does the pump pressurise the system them stop - that's before you turn the key to 'start'. It will continue with the engine running of course.

hi mate, thanks for the reply, appreciate it. sorry to sound like a newbie but iv only just got this hippo in the last month or two. is the inlet manifold at the back of the engine underneath the injectors or in front of the engine. i think it did pressurise the first time i tried as i always wait for it to stop whirring before i start the engine. i dont want to be calling for a tow to the garage and repair if its a simple job. im driving the mrs fusion at the mo and its doing my head right in.

I didn't know Fusions did that:D

As you stand with the bonnet up the inlet manifold is the black plastic arrangement between the engine and the firewall/windscreen. The fuel line rises up at the rear of the motor and splits, part to he black canister in front of the passenger and the other goes to the injector rail beneath the inlet manifold. It connects on the right hand side and is tricky to see. The connector is red. Probably unlikely it will leak. But you can begin to trace the fuel line from there.

hi there. i followed what you said and bingo. the end that goes in to the fuel rail had come away, i tried to put it back in but it seems pretty lose. is there a certain way to put the pipe in. am i missing something. i took a pic on my phone because i couldnt see it. does this end look okay or has something come away.
thanks for the help. 20141124_101513[1].jpg

I think that it's a bayonet type connection. The fuel line should just push in a click / snap into position. To Remove you squeeze? two tabs on the IM coupling and pull it out.

Bother I can recall if it's push / pull and twist of a straight push/pull with locking tabs that you squeeze when you pull the fuel line out. The locking tabs on the IL connector could be broken / missing - may be replacable with a S/H part.

thanks again for the quick reply. looking again tonight in the dark again, it looks like the red part on the fuel rail has snapped the end off somehow and is missing and the other end with the fuel line is also missing the bayonet type. so looks like a new fuel rail in order but where can i get a replacement bayonet part? iv been typing in fuel rail connector fuel line connector ect in ebay for the last hour and no joy? cheers mate.

May be best/easier to get a s'hand unit and either swap the bits needed over of swap the whole bit.

okay just to close this post as i have had the new second hand fuel rail come. it appears my red connector the fuel hose goes into had completly sheared off the rail on my car. dont know where it had gone. im surmising that it was never there when i bought the car. someone had bodged it and it finally worked its way off in the two months i have owned this car. so the new fuel rail has the red connector and the fuel line is now nicely secure and im thankfully back on the road in my landy and not driving the mrs tiny ford fusion which just makes me angry to drive. lol. thanks people
