Hi guys ....need some advice ....td4 wont start every few days ...but if I put fuel into fuel filter it runs fine for few days then it ....won't start again ...any ideas ....td4 2001 model...many thanks..

Hi ...I've changed the filter ...still no better...thought it might be pump....but its fine whilst driving...no mis fire or any thing...?

Do you heard the pump when you turn the ignition on?

Try this :

1. turn on the ignition but dont start the engine. you should hear the pump. Leave on for about 15 - seconds
2. try number 1 about 10 times
3. try starting it

That will build up presure in the fuel system. If it works, that you probably have a buggered pump.

I learned this from an AA man when i had the same issue. The car failly died in rush hour in the middle of Leicester. Needed both pumps replaced.

If it fail to start only when warm, it could be high pressure fuel pump not building pressue at slow engine speed. I suspect that is the issue that I have at the moment. Car won;t start leave it a few hours to cool, the issue goes away.

Now starting when warm could also be cam postition sensor, but i would have though that there would be fuel in the filter

Hope that helps

Hi all
Not a fuel issue but issues all the same.
Just had a bad day replacing the tailgate window mechanism and motor on my newly bought freelander1 td4 3dr, never new these things needed so much work, finished it all off, was mega chuffed only to find the darn window doesnt slot in properly at the top it seems to sit out side the top rubber. not happy, enyone had the same issue????? Also does any one know if you can pull a fuse out to stop the aux cab heater from kicking in?
The noise it gives off for 2/3 mins after stopping is brutal?? thanks:)

Hi Ross
I presume you replaced the complete mechanism.
The 2 fixing bolts on the frame which are a struggle to feed into the door are
adjustable.
Move in or out until the glass is right, then tighten the lock nuts

I just come to start it ...no joy ...so I have lifted rear. Seat and removed circle. Panel ...to reveal pump/tank....should I be able to feel the pump running...as it doesn't feel like its running...?

I haven't taken mine out, but i wouldn't think that you would be able to hear it. I'm not sure if the rear one turns off after about 20 seconds, like the front one does.

How big a thread hijack is this??!!

When I was trying to diagnose a problem with mine a few weeks ago (turned out to be a filed injector) I could just about feel the in-tank pump vibrating through the floor and carpet with just the ignition on. Could be significant if you can't hear it/feel it running on yours.

hey webley
Thanks for reply
do you mean the bolts at the bottom of mechanism? they were a night nare to get in, do i just adjust them out and keep trying the window till it fits in?
thanks

Well I can hear the front one ....but there's no noise vibration from the tank/ pump...

Turn the ignition on and give the inspection hatch or the underside of the fuel tank a whack with the flat of yer hand. Sometimes it can help to get the pump to fire up.
