I’m looking for the right cas cap to my 4.2 V8 supercharged. I’ve bought one but it’s not quite the same as the original. The old one have some sort of ventilation (?).

Can I use the one I bought or does it have to be the exact same?

See the attached pictures. The old one is the one in the car.

Hi there,
You could just try it and see what happens.
If the engine cuts out due to be vacuum locked then you know its not a good match. ;)

I'm not sure if I want to try and see what happens.

The car indicates that the fuel gas cap is missing and the engine light is on. I've read that it's probably caused by a faulty gas cap. I did try the new one but the engine light was still on and I was thinking that it might not be the right one for my car.

Have you checked the warning light with a diagnostic tool as you could end up looking in the wrong place?

Original cap seal looks 'problematic'.
Exactly. That's why I bought a new gas cap. But the new one is not the same as the original.

I'm wondering if someone knows if it's a problem to use the new one or if it have to be the exact same? In my head there might be some sort of function on the "ventilation" in the old cap.

In my mind all caps should have a 'one way' vent because as you use fuel the tank must draw air in to fill the void...your 'aftermarket' cap should also have a vent.

If in doubt, replace it like for like. o_O
I'd fit it, then drive for 5 miles... then stop and check for serious vacuum upon opening the cap....maybe make that 2.5 miles as it's a Supercharged.

It's a plastic tank so it should handle a fair bit bit of vac.

I wonder if the seals are bonded or easily swapped between caps?

I told the company that I want to change to the exactly right one (what i ordered) and they told me that "We sell a lot of these to the L322 and there has been no problem".

My goal with this car is to change the things that need to change to the original stuff.

Yeah, I could try and change the seal from the new to the old and see what happens. But if it not works I can't send the item back.
I don't know. Maybe I just take the cost and order from somewhere else.

Where do you order spare parts?

Send it back if it doesn't match the description of what you wanted. You'll do well wanting to have everything the way it should be. ;)

If the 'bought' one is the correct listing for the L322 then just fit it, the manufacturer wouldn't be in business very long if they didn't work.

Sure it may look a little different but it should work.

Vented filler caps are not allowed as far as I know, there has to be a separate vent system.
