hi can sum 1 plz advise me on roughly what mileage u can acheive on the 4.6 to the gallon as i dont think mines right thanks

I have heard 17mpg? But a number of factors could affect this, tyre pressure? a good service?etc...
 
im just a run round town and shops lol i dont seem to be averageing what i did on fuel ive had new plugs and leads and is now more responsive
 
Around town I'm getting 11.2 mpg
however on the motorway on a steady 60-65mph I can get up to 19-20mpg -woo hoo

however that is with 295/30/22 tyres, only slightly (ever so) better when I revert back to my original 18" alloys

I still love it !!

Expect 16-18 round the houses and 20-22 on a run. Depends how light or heavy your right foot is. If it's really heavy, as low as 10mpg can be expected !!!
Also forget the Sport mode button otherwise you will pay for it. I find I get better consumption when I fill up with Super unleaded (97 octane) when we are in the U.K., unfortunately, can't get it over here.
 
I get a steady 17.1 mpg (according to the computer). The best I have seen on a long haul up the motorways was 18.
 
At the moment my computer say I'm averaging 13.5.

I suspect this is because I've only had mine for 1 1/2 months and am still playing.

Personally I don't care 'cos mine's only for playtime. I do have a company car for work but I've hardly even looked at it let alone drive since I got my toy!!

Just love the cruising, the power, and the burbling of the V8.
 
Obviously no two engines or driving styles will give identical results.
Regular changes of the air filter, I change mine every 6000 and spark plugs helps considerably. I use 10-40 Valvoline mineral oil and also inspect breather hoses for damage. The tyre pressures, which can have a bearing on fuel consumption, I keep at 34 front and 34 rear.
Don't forget that in spite of the suspension lowering feature, the P38 is still as aerodynamic as a brick !!
 
very interesting -

I've only had my p38 4.6 vogue for 4 weeks and, accoridng to the compute around town I'm averaging about 17- 18mpg and on a mororway run as much as 25 - 27.

During a recent tow of the caravan to the isle of Wight I averaged 14-18 which ain't bad - be even better on Thursday when I get her back for having teh lpg fitted - only 66p/ltr around here

I have standard 18" wheels 255/55 18 tyres with book value pressures of 28F / 38R. Average town driving is around the 18MPG and runs in the low 20's. I've always thought the front tyres "look" underpressure so I may experiment with them now.

I run a diesel P38 so I'm looking at your comments with interest. The manual says tyre pressures for front and rear should be 28 and 38 respectively and so I keep to that, but I've seen a lot of threads suggesting/recommending 32-34psi all round. What's the general consus? Surely the RR manual would suggest optimim pressures? I'm happy to have a play about if you guys think it can improve fuel consumption. Even though mine's a diesel I'm all for saving a few pence at the pump!

Irish, Rave says pressures should be at 28 front, 38 rear.

I've got grabbers on mine - would 34 all round be an advantage on these?

Owners Handbook says a lot of things, like always use a main stealer and fit only genuine parts !!!!

I stuck to the book in the early days, 28 front-38 rear and found that the ride was very hard when going over small bumps etc. I found that dropping the rear to 34 when driving with an empty boot was much better. I still put 38 in the rears when towing or with a full load though, which is not that often.
With most airline gauges out by a mile, you may think that you are putting 38 in but if the gauge is out by just 10% on the low side, you are putting over 40 in. I changed the pressure gauge on my airline with one from work which was checked against a calibration rig an is +/- 2% accurate and I always check my tyre pressures with that.
I have the standard 18" alloys fitted with Bridgestone A/T's all round.:)
 
After trying various pressures i settled on 32 on the front and 34 on rear. suits me but i think its personal preference as long as you dont go stupid.

I am not getting anywhere near these readings according to my computer. Mine is saying 7.5 mpg around town and 13.5 on a run..

Tyres 34psi all round and recently serviced..

My daily mileage to work is only 2.5 miles each way..

Are these computers accurate?

I didn't expect the fuel consumption to be so poor even though I knew what I was letting myself in for, but did expect a bit better than what I am getting!

My rangie has been converted to springs.. Does this have that much to do with my obvious problem?

Advice please?

At last someone with figures similar to mine!!!

Sorry Chris, can't offer any advice, but I'm in the 8 - 10 catagory with my MPG.

I've got LPG but it really doesn't seem to make any difference (with either lpg or petrol) except that LPG is 76p per litre.

I only tend to use her on little runs as well. Still love it though!
 
I get 10-12 round town 18-20 motorway and 14-16when towing my caravan on motorway
It verys through my mood ie.heavy foot or just ploding round i had it down to 3mpg once but i was ragging it about
 
Ok... So who is telling porkies???

I've just done a 300 mile round trip 95% motorway driving sticking to the speed limits most of the time... I drive with a feathery right foot and the car runs like a dream...

Result according to trip computer 14.2.

Something must be wrong then? according to everyone else bar one person on this thread!
