Hi,
I observed that one of the bolts has broken in the UJ at the gearbox end. Can't remove it as it's head is towards the gearbox side in the flange. Even if I remove the propshaft from the flange I won't be able to get it out. Is there any other way, without removing the flange? Do I need to set the pre-load, if I remove the flange from the gearbox.?

Thanks in advance.

Flange must be removed to replace bolts 3/8" UNF. Grease oil seal refit flange and torque flange to 148 Nm or 109 lb ft.

Going to change the 2 U J s too though they are 50% okay.
I don't have an Impact gun & no 2 post lift. Crawling under and removing that flange nut.........

No such thing as 50% ok on a U/J they are either good or knackered. A couple of hours should see you finished. Don't forget the prop nuts and bolts are 3/8" UNF 9/16" AF spanner size not metric shit.

Are you fat or what? Lift suspension to highest setting and use axle stands. You don't need an impact gun or a two post lift. I think you are trying to talk yourself out of doing this job.:D:D Send flight money, arrange accomodation for two weeks and I will do it for you.;):D Make that for two people as Wammers has to come out as my technical advisor

It's turned from an easy 2 hour job to a 2 week all expenses paid holiday for yourself and Wammers :D:cool:
I'd better come along as well; you'll need pictures taking for the tech stuff section:confused:

Good idea Alan. I could agree on a day each for travelling to/from Colombo and 2 hrs for the job(as per advise here).
but why you want 2 weeks and a Tech Advisor?. I guess our LR agent would do it within 5 days or so at a slightly less cost.
BTW, I'm not fat and got to do it alone. Hate lying back & removing that flange nut which is definitely a tough nut to crack.

Not with a big cracker bar (which I will bring) and a big torque wrench that will be supplied by my Tech Advisor. The two weeks are to get over the jet lag.;):D:D

Alan have you sent him a PM. Did you mention no women over twentyfive and topless room service? :D:D

Jet lag............?, I thought u r coming from France to India in yr Rangie, then boat to Srilanka.

Got the PM. As a cost cutting measure, topless room service agreed with girls over 85 extremely personalized service. Experience counts, isn't it?

That will do me.;):D:D

As expected, it was not so easy.
The UJ nuts at the g/box end took 2 hrs to remove as the chassis bar in the middle.
Changed both UJs but could not remove the flange nut. Even with suspension at highest level, the vertical distance from the flange to ground is about 2 ft.
When using a breaker bar about 3 ft, sideways movement is blocked by the radius bars. after so many attempts and wasting 3-4 hrs, gave up. Tells me that I have to buy an impact gun. So could not replace the broken bolt on rear UJ.

While down there observed
1. oil seeping from the trans shifter thingy where the transmission cable connects.
2. rear radius arm poly bushes have developed cracks.
With the RR things never end.

Glad I didn't go the poly route then!
