Im after some advice, ive removed the front prop off my 90 300tdi and have removed the UJ's ready to fit new ones, ive noticed that there i cannot get the prop to slide - ive managed to separate it - but its really stiff, ive lubed it up and put it back together, but its sill solid.. should i look to replace it - if so where is best to get the replacement?

cheers all

The splines have a coating on them, if it doesnt get greased, or if it is very old, the coating will come off and jam up the splines.

New shaft, usual internet suspects or local parts indy.

No as even the cheap ones are just fine, all you need to do is grease them a couple of times per year, most people dont.

yeah thats what i thought, any makes i should avoid ?
I recently bought a new front prop for SWMBO's D1 - the original had thrown a balance weight..... Thing is, the new one was wrong.... too short, not enough movement in the sliding member ( ooh err matron )..... and not enough articulation in the UJ flanges. IOW, it would have bottomed out at full suspension travel ( or come apart:eek: ), and probably knocked like a good un too  - it was actually impossible to fit with the vehicle on a two post lift, it was that short!! ...... so make sure you check any new one against the old one before you fit it. The supplier refunded me, but, this left me with no front prop !!!

I ended up measuring the missing weight, and welding a replacement on, as a bit of a bodge, really... but its worked, and order has been restored.:)
