hi all, when i originally fitted my front lamps and switch, they did not work, as yours the light came on in the switch, but no lamps lighting up, took it to my local indy, plugged it in to laptop, activated the lights through the computer, still no lights, checked the connectors, behind the bumper, no supply. cut off the connectors, crimped on new male/female bullets. lights worked and have done ever since
hope this helps.

Hi, is your rangie a DSE? if so did you have to do any mods so the gearbox oil cooler didnt get too hot (if its an auto)??

Hi thank you for that i will check connections over this weekend and let you know how i get on !! :)

Hi Irishrover sorry ive not been on sooner, terminals are putting out 12v. Do you think doin what al-one-arm suggested mite work, cut old terminals off and put new ones on ? The bloke i bought my P38 off swears the front fogs did work ?. Apart from terminals bein changed if that dont work what do you suggest ? regards Jeff

if you have power to the terminals its a bulb/lamp unit issue!! cutting the connectors off wont do much!!

clean the contacts up thoroughly and it should work!!!

I know its an old post but my lamps still wont work i have cleaned all terminals and bought new bulbs,i have even phoned the bloke i bought car off and he swears they did work cos he bought car of an oldest gentleman that took car to main agents when ever it needed ANY work.So i presume that these were fitted by LR or RR agent the lamps are originals as is the wriring and plugs/connectors any idea would be helpful im in Manchester, can Emmotts of Colne do it for me does any1 know thanks guys Jeff.

Mines DSE the lamps were fitted when i got car but from what i can tell no mods done as they look like they fitted by RR all wiring and plugs look original and its even got the "breather" tubes, dont quote me on that, attached to the back of the fog light housing which is meant to help the oil cooler obviously keep cool other than that i cant see anything hope this helps Mike regards Jeff.

They may need to be activated in the BECM, in any case they should not be there as they block the air the the oil cooler.

Hello Folks, I know this is an old thread, but I have only just found it and thought I'd share my experience!
My old "Duchess" is a '96 DSE, and I've had her for 5 years now. When I first got her, I wanted to tart her up a bit, so I sourced a pair of "like new" front fogs and a dash switch off fleabay, and took out the bumper blanking plates and fitted em in. I had the local indy sort out the becm and they were up and running in no time! I only learnt much later that I should not use fogs because of the auto-box cooling issue, but in my earlier ignorance I did not appreciate that...anyway, to cut a long story short, I have never had any overheating issues with my g/box, so I assume it's staying cool somehow!! and the fogs are such a necessary bit of kit, that I'm not gonna take em out now!
There were screwed in blanking plates in the bumper before anyway, so what cooling would they have provided??

What you should have had was a blanking plate on the offside and a grill on the nearside, allowing airflow to the gearbox cooler.

Do you do any towing? I strongly suspect that, unless you tow or drive across the Sahara (or both) then you can probably get away with foglights on an automatic diesel.

When you are measuring for voltage at the terminals what are you using for an earth for your meter. If you've lost the earth from the bulbs for any reason but you've clipped your meter somewhere else on the body then you will show 12 volts (approx). Try a continuity test from earth on a lamp to the body.

Hi Guys,
Wow! This is bad news!! I too have a 97 2.5DSE bought from RR Dealership & I too have Front Fogs which, looking at the front surround etc were factory fitted (These are built into the valence under the bumper, not "Strap-ons" from Halfords!):p My fogs worked for 2 weeks, but now nothing, nor does the dash switch light up? So what now???
Also, on the light up oddometer/ECU warning, only the first 25mm lights up? The last 30mm is too dull to see in daylight, but is just about visible at night. Why is this and how do I fix it? (I'm a RR Newbie after decade or so of Nissan 4x4's):blabla:
Thanks in anticipation.

I think you probably need to consider suicide Mr Fabulous, whats the world coming to when you can't buy strap-ons from Halfords!!

If you went to Halfrauds and asked for a strapon you'd make a real dick of yourself.:D:D:D Or even a dildo.

BTW: My 2.5 DSE is a manuel not autobox, so perhaps that's why they were fitted. I definately need them, as compared to the Nissan, the headlights are as much good as "Table lamps" glued to the bonnet!! Does anyone know if the Nissan Headlight bulbs (3 prong H4) are the same as the RR? Cos I got some serious blue zennon 120w/80w that I took off the Nissan prior to selling it........HeHeHe (Still laughing about Halfrauds & asking for a "set of Strap-ons" whilst being served by a bunch of Dicks !!Lol

Don't mess about with your headlights etc. on a Rangie. The power for them is supplied from the BECM and you don't want problems with that.

If you want more light fit extra lights and power them from the battery.

As for your foglights have you done a voltage test at the bulb holders?
The check light in the switch is only a wee bulb and it can blow like any other.

Have you read the rest of this thread and tried your fogs with other lamps on/off?

As for your dash display, again it's only lit by backlight bulbs, maybe you've got one blown there.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the issue with fog lights on diesel autos can be resolved by fitting a more conventional aftermarket oil cooler. Apparently the standard one is weird and in a vulnerable position. Can't remember where I saw the article now tho. Rr.net probly.
