Says it is switched on but it is not working, hit nearly 96 C as well.

What do I need to check please?
 
Fuse F5 and relay R4 both in engine bay but these fans get usually seized, see if the blades are turning... aamof, it should kick in only at 110*C, 96 is just where the thermostat fully opens ....or on aircon request
 
If you mean aircon fan, internal, check the electrical connection around the back of centre condole, thats happened in mine once, I know its not a disco but if you are sweating your tits off it would be worth checking. ;)
 
I think they all seize up eventually because they are hardly ever needed and rarely come on.... In 11 odd years, I went through 2 of those fans before I rewired it through a separate relay to the live feed for the compressor to have it cycle with the compressor.

That's a brilliant ideea it should have been this way from the beginning
 
Going to try a rebuild as a breaker wants £100 for a fan. Failing that try an Ebay one for about £20
 
What a pile of shite.

case had rusted slightly pushing the magnets into the armature.

Armature was completely burnt out, needing a rewind (as if) magnets, one broken, brushes nearly gone, 2 brush mounts snapped.

Will be trying this

The motor itself is TYC630790 available on Amazon US which makes replacement straight forward but I went with the Ebay fan you listed and with some fettling made it fit the original plastic case.
 
Got the fan, 80w, looks fine for £20, will try to rebuild it into the orignal mount.
 
Please post on this once you've done it. My front fan was shot in exactly the same way as yours, it's now removed and waiting for a replacement. If you could put up a few photo's that would be great :)
 
Pictures to follow, took me about 2 hours all in.


Need the following tools

8mm socket
10mm socket
cross head screw driver
rusty screw realease fluid or lots of cable ties
Hawkeye
soldering iron
heatshrink
drill
40A fuse

Unbolt old fan assembly, bolts liable to snap. Top unbolt RHS 10mm to drop assembly to get the hidden 8mm bolt.

Remove old fan motor, may need to drill out bolts.
Cut off loom from motor
Dismantle your new fan, keep all parts handy
Put inside old frame and drill small hole in big area and the other through the webbing. Fix on motor from inside, smear a sealer (I used a gasket type) around the join as I reckon water would get into the motor around the seam.
Cut and join the looms, black to blue, blue to black, remember the heatshrink.
Now fit fan, reversed as it is now a pusher not a puller.
Take to car, plug in, make sure fuse is OK.
Plug in Hawkeye, ignition on, EMS, TD5, live circuit tests, bottom one, fan tests, make sure it blows the correct way.

Now refit it all.

Darn it,

Read this the other day, and while in the car today thought I should check that fan.

Well, it is kapput! stuck solid!

Guess the ebayer above is getting another purchase. Thanks for the write up MJI.

Already ordered, although as I do not have a heated windscreen there are a couple of spares in the fuse box, LOL.

Found a fan for £14 .

Old one is completely fubared.

Mine has not got leather, nor DVD, but I think it has everything else!

More to fix!!!!

Will have the fun of redoing ACE later on as two pipes are pretty bad, will be getting hydraulic hose

Job done, same as above, nice and easy, except for the top bolt behind the bonnet latch, a PITA to get started.

But all is good now, fan £13, a nice cheap fix.
