Hi all,
Over the last couple of days ive noticed a quite distinctive wobble on the front end. Ive heard about the death shake but mine is more noticeable at low speeds eg crawling speed it's almost as if someone's jolting the front end once every full wheel revolution. its noticeable to the point where you can see the front end move while crawling!

Anyone got any ideas?

There's a lot of things involved in the discos steering, to save time listing these items what have u checked so far?.

To be honest I haven't had time to get her up on the jack yet. Im going to check wheel bearings, swivels and swivel bearings but it just seems a little strange to me how its enough to shake the car at such low speeds eg 5mph and its enough to wobble the car and it even mives the steering wheel

Plus tyres, wheels, steering coupling, box and damper and all the ball joints u can find.

Check the tyres for lumps and bumps -

'specially on the inside wall ...

i got mud tyres and i can feel the knobly bits as i roll slowly on tarmac.. and can see the front end move left n right...

Mine just been through an mot so i have checked all bearings, ball joints, track rod ends and then everythin was checked again by mot inspector so nothing is worn..

But checking everythin is the place to start..

I have the same so far ive checked tyres put in new wheel bearing and swivel bearings I still have it. so today im just about to put in a new steering damper as mine only started when I smashed my old one. And also putting in new panhard bushes today if they fail it will have a appointment with the scrap man.

Get the wheels up in the air and rotate them and observe what happens.

On the other hand, it's not something stupid like it's been left in difflock by any chance? We've all done it once. :p

I had the same shimmy at low speed, it disappeared when I had new tyres fitted so check the tyres.

:D no not used diff lock for a while so not that but yes I hold my hands up I have done it lol

So finally got chance to check everything today and there was a massive 'egg' on the tyre! How I never noticed it I'll never know! All sorted now

The new cront damper seems to have cured mine :)

I have also just had a new damper put onto my 300Tdi ES Auto. It felt like I was about to leave the road if I hit a bump whilst pressing the brakes. The damper certainly seems to have sorted the wheel wobble, but it has made my steering feel heavier. Also when I have turned a corner, I would expect the steering to return to straight by letting go of the steering wheel, but it's now reluctant to do so. Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing this?
