Hi guys I am new to this forum so HELLO! :) I hope someone can help.

I have a 2010 Freelander 2 HSE, there is roughly 28,000 on the clock. It has always been serviced by LR and is less than 2 months out of warranty.
There has been some noise from the front end since my last service in Nov 13. Firstly, I thought it was the road noise as I had new tyres. It wasn’t loud so I just put it down to the tyres. However, as the noise didn’t go away I got LR to investigate it. Today they told me that the front diff has gone and will cost over £1400 to fix!

It doesn’t seem reasonable that the car should have failed when only 3 years old and low mileage. This isn’t the first thing that has gone wrong with it, the oil pump went early 2013 but fortunately this was covered under the warranty.

Has anyone else had or know of issues on the Freelander with the front diff? Also does anyone know why the front diff would fail.

Lastly do you think I have a case to put forward to LR to see if they will meet some of the cost?

Any help, advice or feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks

If it really is the front diff and not just a dealer trying to rip you off, I would certainly contact LR and press for the work to be done FOC.

Thanks I have. I found out this afternoon too that the oil pump that went was the diff oil pump that got replaced the beginning of Sept and two weeks later after my service I heard the humming noise. I don't know if the two could be related, but I will push this further if LR dont sort something out as it's too much of a coincidence.

Sure it's not front pinion bearing on the rear diff???

As a first step I would contact LR Customer Care and ask them to review your case

Try freel2.com, they have more knowledge on the freelander 2...and from what I've read there is someone from Landrover customer services on there who has been quite pro active in getting landrover to contribute to part or all costs on repairs in situations like yours.
