Hi

Ive got a freelander 1998 R reg 2.0TD
Ive been havin problems with the MIL light comin on and loss of power. Diagnostic computer ( NOT T4 ) said Engine temp switch and TPS so changed them and still same now Diagnostic computer said ignition timing deviation.....the guy who put diagnostic computer in said its NOT the crankshaft sensor.
Ive been pointed in the direction of either injector no1, the timing solenoid in fuel pump or wiring ?????
I am going to get it hooked up to T4 diagnostic screen.... ( wot i should of done originally if i knew about a T4 machine !! LOL )
Is there anyone in Blackpool who knows how to sort freelanders out as the closest in yellow pages is Preston and everytime i have to get computer on to it I have to travel to preston. Anyone want to buy a freelander !!! LOL

hi, you could try E.S.A on Westmorland ave, Bpool or A1service on Stanmore Ave Bpool both know what there doing and they wont send it out if it aint fixed,

Hi john lad

Been to landrover specialist in preston today....and they put it on there T4 computer....same again injection timing deviation........he did few tests and said it was either the wiring from needle sensor to ECU or the injector with the needle sensor.
I got back home and checked the wiring and it seems to be fine as i checked continuity. So it looks like its the injector needle sensor. So rang up currans and landrover and the part is expensive. landrover pn : MSC100610
You wouldnt know of any second hand one anywhere by any chance ???? Running out of cash fast trying to sort this lanny out !!!!

hi, ring ESA 01253 626814, ask if he can check wiring and sensor he has a freelander himself, he sorted problems for me when main dealers told me i needed a new engine he traced fault to ecu connection and fixed for £170 which is a lot less than a new engine. The part number is listed at www.LRdirect .com at £167.53 +vat, let us know how you get on, or try a search of LRbreakers.

hi again, just looked on ebay and some for sale item number 180469032099 from a rover i think its the same engine as yours, its a buy it now £90 or make an offer, but its an expensive way to fix it by trying new parts other than diagnosing first,

Hi Johnlad

Cheerz for that I will ring ESA tomoz. Is there name of anyone i need to speak to there ?
Im sure the wiring is ok but I only know this because when i have my meter on the connector u connect the needle sensor cable to shows no continuity only until i connect the ecu pins back in !!!! Is this correct or do u think i might have dodgy ecu connection pins ????
cheerz for your help m8 much appreciated !

the owner is called Graham, he comes across like a misserable get, but is ok, usually his wife answers the phone, anything sensors or electrical is generally beyond me, im more mechanical minded but id put money on him sorting it

Hi again

So rang ESA told him about problem. Told him how i checked the wires and he said wires shud be fine !! He said i would have to get injector from diesel specialist.
So i went onto 1st choice for spares on net and got an injector for £40 with month gaurantee they said it defo worked.
Before I put the injector in it measured 99 ohms and when i put it in it then measured 105 ohms. Not sure if this is right..................
Thing is the problem is still there.............Anyone any ideas ???????? I am at end of my tether and its costin us a fortune !!!!

cheerz ste any help much appreciated

have just done a search on similar problems and it could be a cable on 1 of the injectors having chaft the insulation and intermittantly earthing

do you mean the strong cable that loops from one to another ?? Surely the guys at landrover specialist would of checked this first they were in my engine for a while !!!!
Plus the cable is quite strong and rigid not much movement in it......
I will defo check first thing in the mornin and hopefully this would be a great fix if your right. i hope so !!!!!
thanks steve

Hi again
I know its dark but im so eager to get this fixed. I got my torch and had a look and the wires are ok ! They are not touching anything and they are rigid enough that they loop without movement.....if you know what i mean......
Im gonna pick up the crankshaft sensor tomoz and get landrover specialist to fit it and if it dont work hopefully they will find out whats goin on with it !!!!!

some people have had problem with the wire to the fuel pump soliniod breaking inside the insulated sheath, when i had a problem with a crankshaft sensor the car ran good for about 10 mins from start then cut out and wouldnt start until cold and repeated this cycle. Who said it is defo crankshaft sensor?

The mechanic at landrover specialist it could be crankshaft sensor as covered almost every other area.
Anyhow I fitted new crankshaft sensor ( £35 ) and it was a nightmare.....the mechanic pointed me where it was and i did it myself.....it was basically underneath the engine and was difficult to get to....was searching for the bolt to take it off blind as couldnt see it only feel it.
But guess what it wasnt that...... I have booked it in for saturday but i have also been told on this forum that the timing solonoid could be goosed.
Another thing is when i rev it about 3000 rpm after few seconds it would lose power and smoke would come from engine and mechanic doesnt know where it comes from, when it does this it also makes a rattle noise ( back fire noise i think but no bang )if u know what i mean?
Im gonna price up a timing solonoid and if cheap enough might fir it before i go tomoz.....
Where is the timing solonoid ?????

Thanks steve

not to sure as ive got a defender, but would think near fuel pump, do you have a haynes book or workshop manual?

Hi
Sorry for late reply....i have had a nightmare !!!!! Before the solonoid got delivered my freelander decided it had had enough and the engine has ceased. I am proper gutted spent a bit on it like ive said and now its down the swanny !!!
I even asked the guy at landrover specialist if i could still use and he said i could !!!!
OBVIOUSLY NOT !!! well peed off !
Do you know how much i could get for a it spairs and repairs ??? I had a look on ebay and one sold for £1,017 spares/ repair. Can i be this lucky !!!!!!!!(for a change )
If you know anyone who wants one its in top nick and new parts just the engine has ceased and i have had enough, i just need to get rid and buy a van .
