They ain't designed for extreme off roading, but they are capable on un rutted ground, would put them better than any other Softroader available out there. Would rather drive a Freelander 200 miles on the motorway than a defender...
I have recently driven mine once again off road on rutted ground this time with snow  imagine that in a gaylander! Up in the local mountains and the Pyrenese mountains and confirm that it is entirely capable even on it's standard road tyres. It's never going to be as capable as a Defender is it? However on the return journey it was a bloody long way with only single track road most of the way and with lots of twisties. I know what I would rather be driving.
