Met a chap last night who has put a Subaru engine and running gear in a Freelander. I have no idea how he did it or what engineering problems he had but it sounded quite splendid. He reckoned it had over 200hp and was going to modify and chip it further. I've no photos but he said he lived in the local area, so maybe next time...

Has anyone else seen an engine conversion or something slightly different done to a Freebie?

Not seen one myself, but anything is possible.

Rover put a V8 Mustang engine into a 75/ZT after all.

There's plenty of room in the Freelander's engine bay for the compact Scuby boxer engine and gearbox. The rear propshaft is similar in size too. The front drive shafts would need working out and the electronics.
But with enough time and inclination, anything is possible.
