I have a Freelander 2.0 Td model and i am experiencing some noise from the steering rack.
the noise is similar to a ball joint noise but it is clearly coming from the rack just outside the fire wall.
it can be heard while driving and having some uneven ground or if stationary and wiggling the steering wheel left right short movements and fast.

Sorry.
Is there anything we can try to tighten?
There is something like. A nut underneath the rack in the engine side. I was wandering if it is something I cam tighten.

No. There's nothing to tighten as an adjustment. However it's worthwhile checking the rack mounting bolts are tight. Also check the track rods are tight. Otherwise it's a case of identifying what's actually making the noise, and rectifying it.

With wheels on ground get a hand cupped around each ball joint on each end of rack. Get someone to rock the steering wheel with steering lock off!! Feel for play and clicking in each joint before assuming it is the rack. As above, check mounting bolts and watch rack to see if it moves whilst turning steering wheel.

While we're talking about steering.
I'm after the part numbers for the rack mounting bushs, and track rod bushes if anyone has access to the part numbers.
Part 27 and 24 in the picture below.
