I have noticed a lot of chat about EGR removal for LR TD4 and TD5 engines. Can't find any ref the XEDi - Can you do the same to the XEDi and are there any gains?

Any info gratefully received...

Yes they do have an EGR. Disabled mine on my hippo with no noticeable effect. Haven't removed it, just unplugged the little air pipe on it, presume it has the same effect.
 
Definately have an EGR, still connected - for now. Intrigued that TD4 is improved by removal but XEDi not so...

I think you've hit the nail on the head with the word removal. My TD4 only very slightly improved on light throttle openings by removing & blocking the vacuum pipe but when I removed the egr altogether & fitted a bypass it improved massively. Unfortunately I don't know about the L-series but try contacting Roverron.

I've got a L-series.
I removed and blocked of the vacuum pipe, not much of a noticeble difference.
I couldn't find a supplier for a bypass for the EGR in South-Africa.:(
What do I need to make my own bypass?
A blanking plate and a pice of pipe to connect the 2 water pipes? :confused:

Hi Chris2, Unfortunately I don't know the setup on the L-series as I've got a TD4. It needs the whole valve unit removed as it's integrated into the pipe & a specially made bypass easily available from ebay fitted. The TD4 doesn't have any waterways interfering though, so it's very different. Somebody on here must know what to do. Try contacting Ming, he'll either steer you in the right direction or give you a name of someone who can help. Best of luck.

Given the L Series engines other incarnations I did a bit of research on other rover forums. I found several ways of blankning of the EGR and the best way seemed to be by making your own blanking plate. I got an old pan as these are steel about 2mm and obviously heat tested :) and then cut the shape of the gasket on the top of the EGR housing.

This has made a difference and took about 1/2hr to do. Also by blocking it at the top of the housing it means that the water system still is circulating the exhaust gases so no delay in engine warming.
