Didn't get round to doing the door lock yet but might get it done tomorrow. I'm planning to go to a meet with an Irish Freelander club tomorrow so mightn't get time.
The fuel pump was much easier than I expected as this time I went in through the wheel arch

Two plastic rivets and the plastic arch liner pulled back out of the way giving full access. I replaced the fuel filter a couple of months ago from under the car because I was following the video on Youtube put up by Bodgit and Legit.
Mmmmmmmm, maybe the name should have rung some warning bells. Anyway I now have a Bosch fuel pump fitted and it is nice and quiet. The old one must have been an ebay cheapy as it has no markings anywhere which I guess explains the noise.

Back to today I spent the afternoon fitting bushes to the other side, then lowered back onto it's wheels before tightening everything up.
Happy to say all good again. :)
 
I find it easier to do the fuel pump and filter by dropping the whole assembly down. There's only a couple of screws to undo. I place the whole assembly on a block of wood and work in relative comfort. Sometimes the fuel pump and filter are barstuards to get out of the rubber mount.

I took out the two supports to let the assembly drop down, a couple of months ago I replaced the fuel filter and had to remove the whole assembly for that but the pump was easy to do by just disconnecting it alone.
 
A few days ago SWMBO complained of a rattle so I figured it must be bad for her to notice. Yesterday I crawled under and found the N/S drop link was a bit dodgy and after a rifle about the spares box I found an old one that I knew was good and bolted it in. Feeling all smug I was about to put the tools away when it occurred I should check the O/S and discovered it was flapping in the breeze. :eek:
Somehow it has pulled itself apart so a quick trip to the parts shop and a new one was fitted to the O/S.
I'm not sure if the 2" lift had something to do with it or just age but I'll keep an eye on it anyway.

Had some off road fun today in a quarry along with 4WDNI and NILRC. If anyone from those clubs see this then a big thanks for the craic. I did four tests which were pretty extreme and managed to complete most of each test, even doing better than a couple of Discos. :)
Here is a wee video showing the competence of Bertie and the incompetence of the driver. :oops:
A combination of bad memory for the route and getting distracted caused me to take a turn too tight so I came to one of the gates at the wrong angle.

It was a lot of fun but I have to confess I chickened out of doing the afternoon rerun of each test. I didn't like the nasty clutch burning smell I was getting, due partly to my incompetence and partly to having no low range.
I figured I would quit while I was ahead and the car wasn't broken. ;)

That's why I prefer the auto box. Not only does the FL auto drive nicer than the manual FL. The slip in the TC makes a good substitute low range.

Great video - and the increased ground clearance from that lift kit seems to have paid off in spades: plenty of places there where a standard car would almost certainly have ground out. :)
 
The video really doesn't do justice to how difficult it was. I made it up slopes and through obstacles I really thought I had no chance of getting through. I hope to have a little in car footage later but unfortunately due to incompetence of the operator (me :oops:) I didn't get as much footage as I wanted.
 
The FL is better off road than most people think. I find that more power is the key to getting everywhere. The TC works by applying the brakes on the spinning wheels. So progress is best achieved by giving it enough power to spin the wheels.

I'm playing with my RB settings again. I'm looking for slightly less torque low down as it's upsetting the auto's ECU.

I replied on that thread. It sounds like the HG is letting go at a fire ring, to me. ;)

Finally got round to uploading the in-car footage of last weekends RTV trial. Due to stupidly taping the camera to the mirror in such a way that I couldn't reach the start button this is all I got but it gives an idea of what it was like. At the end of the footage I got stuck on a bank that cars with diff lockers were getting up but Bertie didn't disgrace himself in any way on the day. We had a lot of fun, didn't do any harm to the car and proved that Freelanders are very capable.
 
I got a Ronbox and Pierburg MAF off ebay during the week and tonight fitted it.
Had a nasty fright when Bertie started fine, reversed out of the garage and all good, turned off to go in the house and when I came out he was feeling very sick. :eek:
Engine warning light on and no go at all. :eek::eek::eek:
Managed to nurse him back into the garage and went over the connections again and all good. :) Looks like I hadn't got the MAP connection fitted properly. :oops:

Took a wee test drive and Bertie is at last going like he always should have. :cool:
 
What settings are you using. Obviously you have the MAF compensation on for the Pierburg MAF.
What fueling setting are you using?

The first part of that clip looked like a better than standard ski field access road here - without a 750m drop off the side :)

2nd part looked like good fun :) Did you get up that bank? From a novice's perspective looked like you needed a bit more speed.

No :(, not enough room for a run at it and without locking diffs it wasn't going to happen.
Having said that I was shocked at some of the slopes and obstacles I was able to get over. Before the first trial I was laughing with one of the guys that I'd be lucky to make it over the start line but made it 3/4 way through. The biggest problem I had on the day was trying to remember the courses. :oops: I guess when your not in full panic mode about what your about to do then that bit is easier. ;)

Yeh, watching the videos you've posted my biggest question was "how do you know where to go!"
