When i turn on my freelander 1.8 petrol 2001 model it raises idling to about 2 then it suddenly drops and cuts off, it only normalizes after 3 or 4 trials. When driving it suddenly loses power and when changing to high gears it starts jerking and sometimes when changing down it behaves like all pipes are closed and it loses power and sometimes cuts off

Could be several things: lack of power while driving / cutting out point to a fuelling problem. The fuel filter or pump itself could be on its way out. Problem idling could be the IVAC valve requiring a clean. Some use WD40... I use aerosol carby cleaner .

Plus he's in Zimbabwe so could be different set up ?

I have installed a new fuel pump and now the problem of lack of power seem to have disappeared but the problem of idling is still there, can you please assist on how to clean the IVAC valve, Thank you so much for the advise

The IVAC is shown in the pic I posted above. Pull the rubber hose off and spray the carburettor cleaner into the IVAC [ not the throttle body] while the engine is running, reconnect pipe. Have a look at this video on youtube to about resetting the TPS when their is an idling problem - it may be the same with the freelander. [ click on the green text - it's a link to youtube]

my bad - IACV Inlet Air Control Valve
