Yes started sometimes was a struggle, I’ve cracked open the fuel line that goes from the pump to the rail and theirs fuel going to the rail
 
Ok, so you have low fuel pressure at the rail, but I suspect you don't have high pressure at the rail. The first thing to do is replace the O rings on the pressure regulator. If the O rings split, or let fuel by, the rail pressure struggles to build enough for the injectors to function.
 
The HP regulator is bolted to the end of the high pressure fuel pump. It's a very common reason for non starting.
 
So today removed inlet manifold and starter, removed the two torx bolts to find out the rubber o ring was fine ?

It might look fine, but it's best to change it anyway. Any leakage past the O ring stops the fuel pressure from building enough for the injectors to fire correctly.

Also check the rail sensor plug for corrosion.

Hopefully yours isn't one of the few that have had some really difficult to find faults.

It's worth reading off any codes stored too.
 
Try using easy start spray. Spray into air inlet. If it starts her and she then dies out after starting you know its a fuel problem. If runs but wont start again when stopped, its a sensor issue of some sort. IIhad a laguna that did that. Easy start and she started and ran until stopped. Took a while but it was a faulty crank case sensor. Wasn,t kicking in when starting, but worked when engine was running

As you split the fuel line, could there be air in the line? Stopping her building up pressure?

It’s self-bleeding. I Just turn the key to II and let the pump run until it stops. Repeat. Start engine and fast idle for a bit.
 
Am following this thread with interest, as I have the same starting problem.
I changed the regulator o ring last week even though it looked ok, and hippo started fine for a few days on the trot, until the first frosty day. I gave it a squirt of easystart and it started and ran just fine. Next morning had frost again and I flattened the battery trying to start it. What’s next?
