Does anybody know when the Cam belt needs changing?

I am not sure if mine has ever been done and have been putting it off for the past couple of years as I thought I might sell the car!!

Now thinking I might keep a bit longer!

72K miles or 5 years for the Freelander iirc. When the KV6 is used in a Rover the belt change is extended to 90K miles or 6 years. The shorter change interval on the Freelander was due to the harsher environment encountered in an off road vehicle.

A bit of an old link, but for people coming across this, a video I just did may be useful all about changing the cambelts on a kv6 without special tools. It's on an MG ZS 180 (kv6) so the same engine...

That's not a bad video to follow but lots of what he did can be omitted. There's absolutely no need to paint the belts as long as the timing marks are painted onto the pulleys and back plates. The link belt pulleys have V notches so alignment on those is easy and they are best done first. I think he has probably read my KV6 belt guide for ideas too which is why I wrote it. The KV6 isn't a difficult engine to change the belts on but getting to the belts can be a challenge and is where most time is spent.
