Yes
Grab it and push it around. If it's solid they're OK if it moves they're shot.
Do the same with your drive shafts. If you feel the issue through the steering and the gearstick it's likely a drive shaft, not the prop shaft.
Cheap aftermarket drive shafts will cause the same sort of issue.

The drive shafts move from side to side slightly but no up and down movement

Do you mean towards and away from the wheel? If so that's OK but they could still be cheapo after market. Aftermarket tend to have round cups at the gearbox end, genuine have three grooves in the cups

Yes towards and away from the wheel

I'l have a check in the morning to see if they are genuine or not.

Are new driveshafts easy to fit or a complete pain. I am no mechanic but am prepared to try

A pain but dooable in a morning.

It sounds like your not feeling any movement to indicate a faulty CV joint. If it were faulty you'd know it as you would hear a bang when driving on full lock. The problem with cheap aftermarket driveshafts is even though you can't feel any issue when pushing them with your hand you will feel a vibration in the gearstick and steering when accelerating

As I can't tell if they cheap or not could prove costly replacing all 4 with genuine parts.

Will look in the morning any idea where I can find a picture of a genuine part as they all look same so far on ebay
