Darren, I may be interested in the timer/remote side of things - not sure if you've sold the entire kit or not, but even if you have I'd be interested to know how you got the remote activation going?
Basically my FL has the FBH & I'd like to be able to remotely activate it say about 15-20 mins before getting in starting up and driving off - what with the chilly mornings arriving this would be a real bonus and a worthwhile mod in my view.

I've considered the idea of getting a remote control relay from fleabay - bit like this 12V 20A REMOTE CONTROL RELAY SWITCH RM100 on eBay, also Remote Controls, Home Automation, Gadgets, Electronics (end time 30-Nov-08 03:00:56 GMT)
If it's a simple case of finding the +12v cable that activates the FBH then I'd be more than capable of wiring this in - however I suspect there's more to it than that.
Having checked previous posts I think it may be possible with a further relay to mimic ignition power to the the FBH?
Any guidance/help welcomed - oh and if you've got the remote elements of this and are willing to seperate from the rest of the kit let me know:)

"Once you've removed the under wing plastic splash shield you'll see the FBH and the wiring plug to it. If you apply +ve 12v to pin 3. the FBH will fire up as this is the feed in from what would have been the timer switch if you had had one fitted.

The FBH will then operate until such a time as (a) you switch it off or (b) coolant reaches its thermostat level."

I got this info from rustymark. works great.
 
Hi, yes as in the previous post thats all you need to do. If you look back in the thread there are wiring diagrams etc which you can work this out from.

I have sold the full kit now, but I used a simple remote control box which I obtained from cpc:
Remote Control Systems | CPC

I think maplins also do such things, 12v receiver with a relay that latches on, to provide 12v feed to pin 3 of the heater. Then release when you hit the on button. I had it wired through this so I could use the timer as well.

Yes just looked at your link to fleabay exactly the thing, and its a reasonable price. I think I had to add an extra board from maplins to mine because it wouldn't latch on:
MK111 Adjustable Timer with Relay Output > Maplin
this one, once activated would come on for a predetermined time, others are available just to latch on once the button is pressed then off when button is pressed again.

Hope you follow this, I made min out of the remote kit and added a relay board to it as the heater needs a constant 12v feed to do this. If the remote kit can do this then you don't need to add a latching board

Splendid - many thanks - I'll get the remote kit ordered and will have a go once it arrives. Ideally I'd like to be able to have a remote/timer combo - so that I can switch on remotely and after certain period of time for it to go off again (in case I inadvertantly press the button or forget that I have done).
I'll have a look through the links you've suggested and see how it pans out. Once again many thanks.

Hi looking for bit of help worked out how to fire cab fan dose the fbh alredy have a wire too pin 3 of the heater or do you have to fit one thanks
 
Hi all

I wasn't sure if I should have started a new thread or resurrect this one, so before I start I apologise first if I should have started a new one :)

Last winter I tried to get my FBH working (2001 Td4 Auto). It would sort of come to life if you pulled I think number 5 fuse to reset it. The heater would make a fan like noise and cold air could be felt coming out of its little exhaust, like it was trying to work but not getting fuel to ignite it, I'm guessing the fuel pump that's tucked up under the chassis in the drivers rear wheel area is the one and should make at least a ticking noise, this one doesn't. The fuel burner pumped cold air out of its exhaust for about a minute then stopped, it would only restart if you reset it again by removing and refitting the fuse and no noise at all from the FBH pump. Am I missing something here, like another fuse for the fuel pump, or could it be a suspect faulty pump?
 
Yep tried tapping the pump but that did nothing. I have seen a new pump for £100, but don't want spend that just yet in case it was an overlook on my part on something simple. I've checked all the fuses and they look fine. If someone confirm that the pump should fire up at the same time as the FBH unit that would be a start. I'm ok with the spanners, but modern day car electrics confuses the hell out of me.
 
It's not the one under the drivers wheel arch.. It's the one under the rear drivers side arch... Other wise ur tapping the windscreen wash pump

Thanks, but yes I've been tapping the pump that's located in the drivers side rear wheel arch area :)
 
What concerns me is the actual state of the pump, it's rusty as hell, I just hope disconnecting the connector doesn't damage the inlet/outlet pipes. Unfortunately the weather is terrible at the moment so will have to wait until we get a dry day.
