More like i needed the car for work and not as project and never done a k series HG.Sounds like an excuse not to get your hands dirty to me...
Do us all a favour and sell the Freelander to somebody that will look after it. We don’t need Disco owners playing with the Freelander as a toyMore like i needed the car for work and not as project and never done a k series HG.
And secondly if i don't want to get my hands dirty... then why did i buy a D2?... silly
Yeah but.. i like the freelander!!!!Do us all a favour and sell the Freelander to somebody that will look after it. We don’t need Disco owners playing with the Freelander as a toy

It was my first land rover or is.. i did look after it.. got new tires new hoses fresh HG and cambelt, new oil and plugs.. just need a new bottle LOL.
And anything electric works too
Dun't worry. All cars have their problems. A Freelander is a land rover. Lr's have a big following int car world. Hence why there's so much talk of them ont web. Not all Freelander's are bad but there are some that need er bit more love ter keep them going. Enjoy yer Freelander and keep it maintained well. We'll help when yer stuck.im actually frightened
ive just brought one
I reluctantly took my Freelander of my father in laws hands as I was stuck and needed a motor back in 2014. I was apprehensive as I knew they were prone to electrical faults with windows etc but here we are in 2019 and I have put some 50K on the clock and she has been a reliable motor. A couple of years back one of the rear windows got stuck in the down position, caused by the cable snapping and ironically, the other rear window has just done the same but that has been it for me. In the last week, someone drove into the side of it, so I now need a new door and some attention to the sill but am going to keep her going. I think you will be fine.im actually frightened

She's a minter then.I'm a relative newby on here and I've just completed the poll. To be honest, I feel a bit of a fraud doing so, because I've just been GIVEN (gratis!) a 2001 FL1 TD4 with about 150,000 miles on it. Frankly, this is a car that no longer owes anyone anything! It has been cruelly neglected for a couple of years at least, and for the previous 6 or 7 (at least) has been maintained on a shoestring. So far, I have found:
Thermostat failed open.
electromagnetic clutch wire to the aircon pump snapped (fatigue).
rear diff bushes all utterly "cream crackered"
At least one wheelbearing is noisy
Most of the doors either have a locking motor or a window (or both) not working
The headlining is hanging down
Various hoses are chafed and damaged
Handbrake doesn't work much
centre silencer is pretty rusty
Front discs pretty thin
Front disc backplates rusted away
Various seized / sheared fasteners in the engine undertray.
Of those faults, I can only really complain about the headlining, door locks and windows - which in this day and age, I think it is reasonable to expect to last the life of the car. I could complain (slightly) about the aircon wire - just not allowing enough engine movement) and some of the induction hoses chafing (also poor design). Everything else I see as fair wear and tear on a vehicle of that age and mileage.
It has to be remembered that we've just scrapped a Nissan X-Trail (albeit as a result of it being written off) that was 5 years younger and had 130,000 miles on it but up to that point it has had a great deal of work that has had to be done on it, so overall, I'm actually pretty impressed with the Freelander!
Just had a look. Some list lolListing the jobs can get depressing.

Leaking in passenger footwell is the Freelander self-cleaning mechanism, nothing to be worried about, top up is via the same cap for engine coolingHad my 53 plate td4 hippo for 10 years, its had all new window mechs in every door, no longer unlocks the front doors with the fob, 6 disc player is jammed and shows error3, leaking in passenger footwell from under glovebox, number plate light disintegrated and replaced with aftermarket led, running boards fell off as brackets disintegrated.
It comes into the car via the black box thing above the footwell but only when its raining, coolant levels never change, I think there's a missing bung under the wiper mech, I'll investigate tomorrow if the weather allowsLeaking in passenger footwell is the Freelander self-cleaning mechanism, nothing to be worried about, top up is via the same cap for engine cooling

Edit : Top up should be an anti-freeze mix and performed regularly. On K Series, self cleaning should be disabled
