Every time my Freelander breaks I threaten to sell it. But then I fix it and think what would I buy instead?

Faults in order after 5 years of ownership of our 2002 TD4 Kalahari Hard Back with 118,000 miles...

  1. Injector fubared - fixed but head had to be removed as injector was stuck.
  2. Rear Diff mounts - Advisory at MOT, fixed.
  3. In-Tank Fuel pump - Packed in, replaced with OEM item.
  4. Front Callipers seized - Repair kits on for 3 years and still OK
  5. Heater Matrix Leak - K Sealed every year (coolant changed) still OK after 3 years.
  6. Optional rear swimming pool - Hole drilled in floor :) carpets removed to dry.
  7. Engine Breather - replaced with uprated BMW vortex type.
  8. Clutch Master Cylinder - Who is responsible for the placing of this? They should be shot. Replaced, all work carried out on my back in the garage!!
  9. Alternator - Fried it wading too deep.... expensive lesson - also took out the AirCon pump but belt removed until I have coin to fix.
  10. Window Regulator Cables - drivers side replaced with fleabay kit.
  11. VCU - currently running mondo until I can afford 2 x new tyres and a refurb unit from Bell Eng. Didn't know new tyres should go on the back (until I read it here), doh!
  12. In-Tank Fuel Pump - New pump gave out after 18 months, removed and repaired/cleaned myself saving a few quid.

Quite a list and if I didn't do all the work myself I guess the car would have been shipped on a long time ago but I don't know what it is about the Freelander? They just do what's written on the tin!

I think it must be luck of the draw as Ive got an 02 TD4 service it every month as it use it for long distance and the odd greenlaning and I've not had much go wrong with it apart from replacing the track rod ends, wheel bearing and rear back box for a slimline one, I might have just jinxed my self but hey I used to have a 110 and I was never out of the garage working on it lol and if I did have a chance to get out of the garage I then had to clean the oil marks off the drive lol

Passenger door winder mechanism
ring that fits under steering wheel to operate horn (Anybody need one? Sold the car before fitting)

V6 51 plate
All window mechanisms screwed Except sunroof!
All road lights needed replacing
back cigarette lighter socket gone
on third (all decent - read expensive) battery

Still love my Freelander even with all its probs :)

Mines getting very wet in that storage area in the back (where the tool kit fits) dry everywhere else, any suggestions where the water may be getting in?

in two years of owning 1.8 hardtop
Head gasket failure
Clutch after 67,000 miles
VCU bearings
Clutch master cylinder

The best car i have ever owned. Wouldn't have swapped it for a Rolls Royce. Now got a TD4 commercial.

I'm just gonna rip out the carpet and dry line it with a plastic sheet ( cut up bin bag)...keep a hole for drainage and put a plastic container in there..or just brick it up lol
Didnt know there should be a tool kit ?
