It managed the "Bone-shaker" with some aplomb - and that was a surprise, for those that know it.

Hey, is that your X Trail? How does it get on in the dirt? Those pics look good but not too challenging. What tyres have you fitted to it and any other mods? I'm trying to convince my mate that that is the right vehicle for him so more pics/vids of dirty X Trail action please! :cool:

Yup that's mine. Be wary of the doozils - tend to blow turbos
, but more reliable as a gaylander, less rolley on corners and a bigger boot. Oh - and no vcu :D

Any idea of the max tyre size fittable to standard suspension setup?
 
215/65R16 are standard size (and wot I got). Later models went to 17" rims, i think. Biggest size that can be fitted to stock rims, without lifting (and that is F.......n expensive) is 225/75R16's. It is not worth kitting out an X-T as the parts are Phenominally expensive and need to be imported from around the world :(. That why I bought a landy :D
 
Had a quick look at some pics of the MHM's Salisbury trip and that looks exactly as the last two roadbooks we've done overhere. One on 13/2 and the 2nd one last sunday 6/3. Good fun.

It wasnt my trip, Willo - it was organised by the SLUTS - I just went on it as pathfinder for the Hippoos - spend all day talking em through the route and hazards, only to be told after - none had CB's :rolleyes:.

I should point out that aint an X-T - its a "special vehicle landrover" - Slitties were banned :D.

Yes, I noticed the "Special vehicle LR" sticker, but that wasn't needed, I recognised the wannabe Freelander right on .....:D
But the pics of the two url's look all the same as the roads/paths we went through on these two occasions. Was great fun, the first time I lost my front licenseplate in a deep puddle and last sunday I had the contactbox of the caravanhook folded in deep ruts, when in the evening I put my lights on my right indicator light kept burning, on monday I opened the thing as I thought there was mud or water in it giving the false contact but it was just three contacts snapped off inside (because it was foled away and there was no slack in the cable), fortunately apparently none of them was the earth and that it didn't touch a live contact ....:eek::eek:, now I just cut the three copper ends and maybe tomorrow or later on I'll measure which wires were pulled off and will fix it. Tomorrow first thing is to drive one side on ramps so that I can get under it and take the rest of the grass and earth from the car as also the undertray got it's part of dirt. It's simple, as the seal of the RH output driveshaft on the IRD is leaking I had oil leaks on the garage floor, since sunday anymore, guess the earth takes it in now ...:D:D:D anyway, the car is due in on monday evening for repair on tuesday, so before I need to clean it out a little. Pic. of the location where and how I lost my licenseplate.:D:D:D:D

In your honest opinion, which do you think would be the better car off road the Fr2 or XT? From what I know, the Fr2 is quite reliable, unlike our Fr1s.

Honestly? - i dont know. I have never driven a FR2 - It seems to be a bigger vehicle than my X-T (an 02 plate) and sits higher - not sure about ground clearance. I can only suggest what I did when I was looking at a replacement for my KV6 - I rented each car for a weekend and decided which one i Liked to drive.

What I would say is that neither has a strong market in after market parts. As I stated earlier, off-road bits for the X_T have to be imported from around the world. When I was looking at doing mine, Underbody protection had to come from Israel, side protection (tree sliders) from SA, lift kit from Oz.......
Thats why I bought a £500 Disco and kept the X-T for road use (well mainly ;)).

In spite of my thorough washing on monday (with the high pressure washer) I noticed there was still a lot of dirt etc.. trapped between the engine/box and the undertray, so today I took that undertray off and unbelievable the amount of dirt that got caught there, the space between the tray and the engine and gearbox was completely filled with mud and so. Look what still came out:

ok to settle the argument once and for all I think an FL should go on a decent laning day with some discos/defenders/series etc.

I would be up for going laning around north yorkshire with disco/defenders/series not to prove a point but just to get out lanning with like minded people im local to part of north yorkshire so i know a few lanes around the area
 
And once I have my shiny new VCU I might venture along to a trip on The Sarum Plain as well- as long as the LR Specialist Vehicle from Basingestoches comes along too.. ;)
 
So apart from a "Cherry Bomb" exhaust, does anybody have a part number for a smaller after market back box.
