Hi ,

Thought i'd let you know after many months of the freelander 1 2ltr (L series) diesel having a starting issue, i can finaly report it's fixed. It was nothing to do with the drive belts that drive the fuel pump..... more of a fuel pump internal problem. We had the pump swapped out for a reconditioned part and it now starts on the key within a second.... rather than the 15 seconds and a billowing of grey/ white smoke as previous.

Also we had a problem with the damn thing taking off at will and threatening to rear end any vehicle that was in the way.
We swapped out the accelerator twice and replaced the ECU and after a total of 9 weeks and ripping the dash out we seem to be at peace again. Dodgy wiring was the culprit, down to some DIY botched up job from an errant previous owner who didn't have a clue......
We took it to a specialist who fixed all the faults, well a host of others like radiator piping, fuel piping, glow plug sealing rings......

so now you know, hope this thread helps as i couldn't originally find the answers i was looking for..... keep fighting, don't give up :fencing:
