Hi MickB, Thaks for the info. Ours is an '06 manual TD4 HSE. No sign of the wiring for either Cruise Interface (C1959) or the Auto Cruise Ecu (C0239) under the carpets around drivers area or under tunnel.
Have found that there are different looms for Auto and Manual in 2005 on' models - Manual YMC503061 and Auto YMC503071 - no info yet on any differences. Have a LR glossy for 2005 that shows Cruise as an option on all TD4's but no mention of 'only auto'
Solved the big box under passenger seat with aid of a mirror and putting my glasses on - label says LandRover and Harmon Kardon - thats where the sound sytem lives.:eek:
PS. had a good steer from an old hand for recent (latest?) info - Google the 'Green Oval' - large dowloads tho'.
Will post again if I make any more progress - Thanks all.

Hi again,
Have done some searchin' re retrofit to a manual TD4 facelift model. Looks like the Auto's have the wiring for ECU and Interface but the manual's (TD4 anyway) don't. Some helpful picy's of what wiring should be there in Technical Bulletin 004 on Rave. To set up CC you need both units on the Auto doozle. The petrols (pre-facelift) seem to use a air servo system linked to the pedal. Have sourced the wheel paddles and dash switch (seems that top end wiring is still there in mine) and I am now looking into either the Bearmach BA5543 (by SPAL ind.) unit or the Waeco MS800 both £250 - £300 - anyone had any experience with either?
I will be looking to link the unit back to the original switches/controls to operate the CC.
Any help most welcome.

A piece of wood wedged between seat and throttle pedal has many advantages not least being total reliability and minimum cost.D..

Hi TDJohn,
Been following this thread with interest. Just taken delivery of my '06 FL1Freestyle TD4 (Manual). First thing I did was take out the blanking plate on the lower right panel (next to the parking sensor switch). There's an unused 5pin plug with 4 wires attached to the blanking plate. I assume this is the wiring you refer to. If so, it would seem to negate your theory about only Autos having this wiring. Again, it is possible that this plug is for something else altogether.
I guess my question is : Where else do I look for the cruise control wiring?

Hi Bennie,
There are several 'bits' of wiring loom still in the '06 TD4 manual that seem to be for CC. I have traced out some and lost others in the bunch, there are a few 'joined' wires that do not appear on any diagrams. I concluded that the wiring does not follow either the Rave diagrams or the Haynes set, I wonder if they started playing with some loom/fuse box parts for the FL2? There is no wiring for the CC ECU or I/F unit (goes under drivers seat). Without them there's no CAN bus signal to tell the ECU what speed to go-at. The drivers side fuse layouts follows the Haynes diagrams but the socket numbering on the reverse of the fuse panel are way different to the Rave. My conclusion was there is no easy way to install the standard setup. :(
I went the aftermarket route with some help from them that knows on here, installed some new wires where needed and used existing where I could find them.
I have now installed a WAECO MS800 unit from Germany - got on Fleabay, and the small push button control unit (temporary d/s taped) MS-BE3 on the dash. Works great and was a doddle to set up. :tea:
Interface unit cable that plugs into throttle (worth getting the vehicle specific one MS-F01) I/F unit goes up beside the drivers fuse panel LHS, Control unit under radio in centre console where I fitted an 8 way plug to join up all of the new wiring. If it all goes mammerys-up just unplug the interface from the throttle pedal - reconnect the throttle plug and all back to standard - big plus? :crazy_driver:
The missus was a bit ooh-err when she first took her foot off the throttle and nothing happened but it will certainly stop my foot fallin' orf on the way to the Alps next year! Last did it in the Mk1 Disco and had a limp for a few days. :crutch:
Did consider the piece of wood for a few seconds but could not decide what colour to get to match the leather seats and s/wheel so went electronic. :pound:
I intend to install the standard wheel flippers and on/off dash switch later but I will need to make up a small interface box to mate with the MS800 (all push switch + LED replacements so not hard). Have still to test out the function of C0230-5 (V6 cruise active indicator 'unused' +12v signal input on instrument panel) as this may give the standard dash indication of CC active? The CC sockets in the s/wheel are there for the rotary coupler but no column wires, the power feed wire to the socket for CC switch is there but dead (a lost white wire?) possibly around C0292 the header way up under the dash although the instrument panel led does work if you plug the switch in (YUH500080PUY)?
PM me if you want more details on how I dun it. :bolt:

Hi Folks,
Bin orf' wiv flue and got bored. :pop2:
So I sat and wrote down wot I did to get my Cruise Control installed.
Made a pdf wot shows wot I dun and evryfing I found out :blah:
I is gettin better now so I thort I'd share.
Bloomin pdf's too big to attach on ere' 1.2Mb just won't go. :monitor_punch:
If any of them clever ladz wants to see if it's worth puttin up pm me U'r mail and i'll send it U

Hi Gents, I also have a 56 plate TD4 HSE auto, cruise would be a godsend as I regularly drive to Germany and back. I am across to the UK Aldershot area in January, any ideas where I can pick up the gear to do the job ??? any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Davver,
Don't know if anyone has had any success in retro-fitting the standard L/R CC set up into a Facelift Auto-TD4?
I have done the aftermarket fit of the WAECO MS800 into an '06 TD4 Manual and am in the process of converting it to operate from the original L/R switches.
If you want a copy of some info on what I did/found out - PM me your email address. Installing the Waeco unit is very similar for manual & auto installations.

Hi Folks,
Sun came out this mornin - so I took the centre console out to complete the CC fit. :scratching_chin:
Tested out the existing CC lamp in the speedo (C0230 pin5) - apply +12v via a resistor and it lights up - magic. :)
Joined up all of the wires from the existing switches (see earlier posts) to my interface unit (diagram attached) and went out for a test drive. :crazy_driver:
CC is turned on from the original LR dash switch - ok (LED in switch on while pushed + indicator lamp in speedo on)
Speed is set and adjusted up by SET switch - ok
Speed is adjusted down by RES switch - ok
CC is dropped out by use of brake or clutch - ok
CC is re-engaged by RES switch - ok
CC is turned off by dash switch - ok (indicator lamp in speedo off)

Looks all sorted for me now :)
Hope the info helps others.

Hi Folks,
Update on progress;
Had a few times when CC indicator in panel came on for no apparent reason? Traced it back to sensitivity of coupler used - changed design and now seems stable.
Been corresponding with a few peeps who are going this route - here are some more diagrams of what I did - hope it helps them that has a go.

Full CC functions on a TD4 manual - should have been there from day one!

Hi TD John

I've just got myself an 06 TD4 Auto and want to fit cruise control as its a feature I have used many times on previous vehicles.

Having checked with LR dealer that its not possible to retro fit I'm going to try to fit myself.

I can see you have done a lot of work on this and would appreciate a copy of your CC installation notes to go with your super diagrams.

Hi Tricity Bill,
Those that have had a go so far have had manual transmissions, tho' some with auto's have enquired - but seem to have not progressed or maybe just not reported their progress? :scratching_chin:
Most retrofit systems use the clutch and brake 'switch' signals to prevent engine overspeed when you take control with CC engaged. (e.g. dip the clutch on CC and engine hits red line trying to maintain road speed without a safety over-ride)
Freelander auto's factory built with CC have a CC ECU and extra wiring, the CC ECU interworks with the Auto Box ECU to handle the gear changes to prevent over-revving (perhaps only available in top gears?).
Some thought may be needed in making sure there is an effective engine over speed limiter on a retrofit to an Auto Box Freelander. (the after-market systems have the safety sense wires but do not show you how to set them up for Auto's) :scratching_chin:
You will not have the factory CC ECU and probably not the wiring either.
I have worked out a way to use the 'original switches' via some new wiring to interface with the WAECO aftermarket system - the bit you would need extra is 'how to ensure that when the auto box changes down the CC unit disengages before the engine revs reach the red line?' - is this really a problem with an auto if you just use the brake switch?? :high5:
PM me your email address and I can send you the other files I did for the manual (too big to post here).
Towed the pikey wagon to Cornwall and back in July - CC was great. (28.8mpg top to top fill towing with CC) :D

Hi, I'm also thinking that a cruise control option in my TD4 04 Freelander would be great for long trips to the Alps...

Thanks to JohnTD for all your help in getting this operational, it seem all good but a little complication for a newbie like me. I've been looking around and does anyone know why you can't install the LR CC part SCB100211 activate the ECU and off you go (well almost, bar a few parts)

I'm sure this avenue was explored to death, but would like to know the outcome.

Cheers

Don't get too excited if you find SOME CC wiring in a late model.
It ain't all there and the wiring looms between the dash and centre console changed between manual and auto's in later models.
If you got all of the the wires under the driver's seat and down the column (not just under the airbag) and your's is an Auto - you may be lucky but otherwise start again with an aftermarket set up.
There was a thread where someone sorted fitting the standard LR CC ECU and switches etc. (don't know what year it was?) they found it had to be enabled via a testbook and we never heard any more? :bolt:
Maybe it worked but maybe it didn't??

As far as I could find out it was only available on the Auto Facelift models from LR and seems to have disappeared from the catalogue of options altogether around 2004/5?

Hi, please can someone explain what a testbook is?
Thank you.

Also how do I pull the CC blanking plate off the dashboard to see if there are any wires under the plastic. With a little screw driver? I don't want to mark the plastic!
Thanks.

testbook is land rovers computer software which they use to talk to the ecu in your landrover.

switch should just pull out.

good luck
