Hi All,

New to the forum so be gentle !

This may have been asked before and when a bit more time presents I’ll search archives.

But…..

I’ve just bought Mrs HSE Chap a Freelander 2 (She deserves a bit of luxury in her life) The problem is it came with an MOT advisory for the tyres, and currently has summer road tyres on. Not good for the present snow and ice so she's highjacked my L200 !

The question therefore is recommendations for a good winter or all terrain tyre. We’ve looked at the General AT2 on the recommendation of my local Landy specialist but at some point in the past someone has put wide wheels on the FL2 and its running R19’s (235 55 R19) which makes finding AT tyres a challenge (an alternative would be to change the wheels as well but that’s not good for the bank balance)

We’ve come up with the continental Contact and Pirelli Snow and Ice so far but was wondering if there is something I’ve missed, basically what I’m looking for is something that does well on snow and ice, a little bit of off road but a lot of country roads often with mud on them.

Any help / advice appreciated.

The L200 does what I need until I can afford something better. The Freelander keeps the wife happy. Simples.
Anyone got any useful advice ?

Back to Google it is then. Thought one of you more experienced guys might know a thing or two about tyres.... shame that. All that experience and the best you can come up with is burn it.... yup, great forum you got here fellas.

You need to look beyond the detritus. Most of the allegedly amusing responses come from non Freelander owners. I have no idea why but I maintain its a pack behaviour. You will get more relevant responses if you actually ask the question on the Freelander section, but the pack frequents that bit as well. It's worth hanging around though, 1 response in 10 is amusing.

As for the tyres, I have Michelin Latitudes on mine, not a winter tyre or all terrain, but M&S marked and they have served me well in the limited white stuff seen around these parts. Nothing will perform well on ice. I think Google might be your best bet anyway given your wheels, choice might be limited.

Jeeeeesus, life's too short fellas, take the stick, you've got freelanders, not like it's the end of the world or anything....we can all get a chip on our shoulders but what does it change? Nowt!

Been talking again with the local rubber merchant, toying with one or two ideas, one is to change the wheels to something that will take the Grabber AT2's or go for the Pirelli snow and ice.

End of the day its the wifes run about, and its never going to be a 110 but thats not why we bought it. The idea was something that was small enough that she was happy with a decent level of comfort but reasonable performance given where we live (middle of nowhere is an understatment) and with two kids under 3 and her in the car I want it as safe as I can make it.

Always happy to take a bit of banter and p!ss taking, it is at the end of the day a Freelander so you do expect it, but that banter usually comes along with one or two answers to the question.... didn't seem to be getting that this morning.

do a search on here for tyre sizing and you will see why new rims are necessary, also you have answered your own question regards the mot advisory, they are obviously worn out
