Hi guys.

Looked for threads but couldn't find anything maybe you can steer me to the right page.

Have a Freelander 2 which clunks a bit on gear changes if I'm not extremely gentle, especially going from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd.

Was expecting it to be diff mounts, but had a look beneath and diff seems to be attached by a big u shaped bracket.

What's the usual culprits for this?

Cheers

Define "clunks a bit". More information needed.

It's a 2007 2.2, only 78000 miles though.

What are the symptoms of a failed Haldex unit?

That's right on the mileage and age to suffer Haldex or rear diff failure.
A failed Haldex has several symptoms, of which thumping is one. It's best to get it checked properly at a decent LR specialist.
