Hi All.
New to the forum so apologies if this is a well discussed subject.
I’ve owned my Freelander for 18months now. I love it but would like it to have a bit more power. I tow a caravan so more torque for the hills would be great
I am looking to have a remap done, can anyone recommend where I can get this done in the Bournemouth area that can do this? Cheers all.

Looked at re-maps - but decided on a BHP Plus Speedhawk. This fits in the fuel pressure sensor and ultimately pushes up the pressure - but with a difference. It has a TD4 specific downloaded file that sets up the device to overcome the known deficiencies of the TD4 as built.

It then has settings (0-9) to 'trim' the performance / economy that you wish to achieve.

I tow a horse trailer which, with horse, is about 750kg and that is the reason I did mine. Not towed her yet - but initail impression is same or slightly improved mpg, much improved throttle response (flat spot gone) more umph up hills and overtaking.

So I can't tell you yet about the towing, but watch this space.

Cost is not cheap, but can be reprog for any common rail diesel. About £275.

Purists will say 'not a remap' - but I look at it as 'filling gaps' in design and letting the rest behave within the original parameters. Maybe I'm a simpleton!

Cheers Andy. Being a bit of a novice on this I am open to suggestions. Typically those are currently out of stock.
I've looking into local LR specialist in bournemouth, they use these guys to remap and currently offering it at £249 which sounds like a fair price.

I am planning to fit the EGR bypass and replace the crank case filter with the separator this weekend (had service for everything else last weekend)
Will see how it goes after these have been sorted :)

those are the same as the old rover ron jobbies I am not in favor of anything like this as I had one years ago which just increased the diesel input into the engine and it was before silicon hoses so I went through a few i would go for a remap if i need it

VCU checked and all ok, fitted 2 new tyres, 2 more to go :) Cheers

It's very important to run a FL1 with 4 identical tyres. The transmission is hyper sensitive to mismatched tyres. So unless you have 4 identical tyres fitted, it's best not to drive it. ;)

Thought I'd pop a quick update on this thread.
Service completed, including crank breather. Fitted EGR bypass and managed to clear out inlet manifold! The Hippo ran much better than before.
Went for a remap with Wessex Tuning in Bournemouth. The difference is huge, like driving a new car. So much smoother and responsive with good pull in the mid range. Very happy with the mods.
Thanks for everyones advice.
Cheers

Can't find reference to EGR on MOT changes, just the particle filter bypass. Where did ya see it please?

The EGR isn't specifically mentioned, yet. However it does come under the generalised category.

8.2.2
Compression ignition engines.

8.2.2.1
Exhaust emission control equipment.

Defect giving a Major Fail.

"a"
Emission equipment fitted by the manufacturer missing, obviously modified or obviously defective.

Here's the relevant page of the new MOT inspection manual.
I've highlighted the important section, that EGR tampering would become relevant, with a couple of red dots.

There's going to be a heap of really good condition Freelanders coming up for sale at stupidly small prices because of this.

Possibly GG. It looks like diesels are going to have to pass a more strict emissions test too. Unfairly stricter than the engine was designed to pass, which is annoying. :(

so they can actually fail a vehicle on emissions even thoughh its as it came from the factory ????

Not straight from the factory. But it's looking like a 10 year old diesel could fail because it doesn't meet the current emissions regs. I'm still trying to find where I've read it though.
