Problem with Freelander1. Starts up intermittently, revs to 2000 rpm then dies. simply started doing that after parked without battery for a couple days. All sensors swapped out no change. Took off fuel rail. infectors fire for 2 seconds then shuts down. fuel rail stays pressurized. continues to run if sprayed with starting fluid or if fuel is simply dumped into the intake manifold. any ideas appreciated. Again problem is injectors shut down.

Knowing what engine and year would be helpful.

Spot on should have thought of that before answering but i was under the impression it was/is a TD4

Oops my bad. 1.8 petrol engine. 2004. Other interesting tidbit. If i lock and unlock using the remote it will start up and then cutoff right away. however if after that first cycle i try restarting it without using the remote to lock and unlock it will take several attempts before it fires and dies

Have you checked the fuel pressure is over 50 PSI?
Can you hear the pump in the tank running for a few seconds after turning the ignition on?

The pump runs on ignition and pressurizes the rail. Have connected to a manually controlled pump just to insure that the fuel supply is adequate and constant. injectors are still shut down by the computer
