Hello all,

Looking for some support, freelancer last two start ups has started to turn over lumpy and shake quite a bit for a few minutes before seeming to run ok, albeit a little bit let responsive for first few minutes . I put the laptop on here and got the above fault code. I’ll be honest I’m really stuck on next and what to look for , I cleared fault, reset battery and she seem to start ok and run ok, however after 20 Mins running the fault returned.
I don’t want to drive it anymore but stuck on what to do next ? I took a picture of cylinder live data and not so sure what this means ? I don’t really want to take it anywhere yet if there’s some basics I can check, seems a lot of mixed routes to try when looking online or Haynes manual
Would appreciate any support , pictures attached , any guidance before a run to garage

Hi,

You have 2 cylinders that are totally out of balance, certainly 2 dead injectors.
Do a leak back test, to spot the clogged injectors.

Thanks , silly question but what’s best way to do leak back test or is it easier to find a garage? Can it be easier to swop out the two
Imbalance injectors ? Can clogged injectors be easier returned to service with fuel additives etc or is this worth just getting they changed

It depends on if they are stuck most of the time the injector will pop out easy, make sure the engine is hot before removal that helps, leak back test is easy also if you but a test kit below,

Then obtain two good used injectors. with the number 0445 110049 on them.

You could also try a bottle of this in the tank first to see if that helps, one bottle every six months is ok, but your two injectors seems way out of spec.

Hello, thanks for your response ? No I don’t have a leak test kit , can I simply ask a garage to just replace the non working ones ? It’s only just started doing this a few times , can the injectors just fail overnight ? Could the valves of over heated ? I recently added an inline thermostat as I had a sticky thermostat and the mod on the top hose retained warm air and Center point needle but I had noticed that the flow of coolant returned to headertank had stopped and that I couldn’t get the coolant temp over 88 degree to open. That’s the only change I’ve had since she’s being working sweet all year . I’m very much a novice around the fuel injector side etc

You could take it to a garage to just change out the injectors, but you would need to trust that garage because some will see it as a money making scheme for them, personally i would try a bottle of this below first.

It may not be the injectors it could be a faulty EGR you say it runs ok so do not condemn the injectors right away.

Thanks for your help and advice, will defo order this and try with a full tank of fuel. Based on the fault code, do you have any experience or suggestions of other areas I need to check ? I know the picture show the cylinders etc as potential issue and not balancing, could there be sensor issues or anything else relating which could rectify ? As I said it’s only the last week thrown this up and has been a little slow on start up but it has been lumpy ticking over but once off the driveway it seems to clear after a puff of white smoke and run normal

It runs fine or not ?
If not and espacialy with starting issue and rought idle, can be injectors related. A leak back test is your best option.

I had similar when I first had my freelander. I asked a BMW specialist to do the leak-off test (it's a standard procedure and they told me how much it would cost to run the test) which came back with one of the injectors way out of spec and another one a bit leaky but still in spec.

Part of the reason I went to them is because I knew they would know the specs the injectors were supposed to live up to and the work is done extremely cleanly there with all nice new gear so the job would be neat.

I bought used/tested injectors from a place in North Wales through ebay. I had the garage fit the injectors (he said he would code them in if it was required, i don't actually know whether it was or not) and it 100% cured the rough start and 95% cured the white smoke on start up, i just get it a little on a very cold start now (which could be the glow plugs). I don't think I spent more than £250 and I didn't get my hands dirty.

Yes it had a been running fine , just a rough idle
And start up , and first time a little lag in delay when putting my foot down in 1st and 2nd. I’ll get a better look at it next week when I’m back home from work. Thanks everyone , il see if garage can quote me for leakback test

If you are looking for a garage to sort it for you, there is a specialist Freelander place not too far from you 😉

Help me out here ? I’m based in Corton
Sorry - yes, as @andyfreelandy says.
I can recommend - took my F1 there when I first got it… I knew nothing of Landies. Asked them to replace the VCU and give it a good once-over. Very happy with the service given, and nice people (couple called Sue and Norbert run it).
They only work on Freelanders and carry all the parts on the shelf.
Not sure how their prices compare with other indies, as it’s the only one I’ve used, but they know their stuff.

(I’m taking my F2 there next week, to sort an issue I can’t get to the bottom of).
