must admit u saying that , since going from a FL1 to a D3 I’ve had to get more tools , starting with a bigger trolly jack as my old one creaked when I tried to jack up the D3 , lol

One of the best things I got was the cabinet , useto drive me nuts in not finding things , lol

indeed as u say , getting more tools can really make life easier , know after never owning one before , the impact wrench and the ratchet has really helped , was really pleased when I was struggling getting a bolt out in using the ratchet and extendable bar it came straight out with hardly any effort
I have yet to get a "duga-duga" but I guess I will get one before it is too late!!!
Do have a windy gun but A/ surprisingly it ain't that powerful and B/ it's a pain to get the compressor up and running sort out the extension hose etc! Also it isn't an impact gun, so it don't duga-duga!!

Quite a leap from a FL1 to a D3!!
I bought my tool chests from Sealey and they came with a full set of tools free, which I instantly earmarked for France!
There is no getting away from needing two sets of everything.

think this Milwaukee impact wrench only goes to around 340nm, just felt that was good enough for what I needed it for , the bigger ones then really jumped up into the £4-500 range which I couldn’t warrant that kind of money

see Milwaukee does an impact wrench that has around 1900nm , but comes with a duga-duga price;)

Don't tend to watch youtube channels just the odd one, but now you've mentioned Rainman, i'll look out for him!:)

Indeed it was , like jumping into the obis , lol, must admit is my favourite so far , particularly when I first drove it on the motorway , ride comfort was sublime and surprised how quiet it was, took around 3-4 months doing my research of what to look for , alas know it needs more looking along with extra tools after but don’t mind seeing it’s so nice to drive

In the end got my tool chest from SGS as they sold the bigger 42” long one as I knew I would fill up a smaller one , looked at the others that had the bigger tool chests and blimey some had eye watering prices , ur right there , having spare for when u can’t find the other tool, lol

When I said "two sets of everything" I meant one for the UK and one for France. but I do travel around with a huge tool kit and I have at least two of everything in the UK anyway, if not more. You just collect them over the years don't you? I even have three torque wrenches. all a bit different.

Have to confess that brake calliper change and feckin about with the pins and pads seemed a bit clumsy to me, plus he seems to try to do EVERYTHING with a pair of needlenosed pliers. And he loves spraying brake fluid everywhere! But then hey, each to his own!
I'm no pro so who am I to criticise!

must admit did see him once use an air chisel to take off a viscous fan instead of using the proper spanners , but wasn’t my motor nor am I a professional , just assumed u would only do that if all else failed

Also watch , Scanner danner , car wizard , Baram engines to name a few

And to add to that list i think there is some Merkin bunch called ""atlantic " something or other" who are good for LRs.
Re the viscous fan, 1/ a pro I know expressed surprise on finding that the one on my D1 was left-hand threaded, :eek:
2/ The one on my D2 bears big marks of having been hammered off and the history show it only ever having been worked on by "pros".
Pros do do some funny things, the blokey who ran that garage next door to my old house showed me a few tricks some of which weren't in the book, but he never did any harm to anyone's motor!
There is always stuff to learn.
Will never forget the expression of surprise and delight coming from a very highly qualified and experienced BMW mechanic, reputedly in the top 20 in the country, when he discovered Thread Gauge. He couldn't believe that I had heard of it ages ago! But then I reckoned he had never had to actually measure the fit of a crank to the bearing shells or anything as he was probably just told to replace everything with new, at the prices BMW charge!
