Anyone had any experience with flywheel lightening on a 300tdi,,, weights would be good and suggestions of engineering shops that can do the job.:)

I am looking into lightening mine and wanted to know if anyone had any weight figures and results from doing so I know a guy who has lightened one but Im not sure his figures are correct.:)

A diesel engine needs a heavy flywheel, I wager a bet you'll regret doing it. ;)

OK let me try again:

Why would you want to lighten it?

I fitted one to my Camero because with less inertia to overcome the engine revs up quicker so you get much better throttle response.

or..

In my youth, when image was everything, I spent a complete fortune adding pointless tuning parts to my Camero purely to make it sound cool and impress girls.

You decide :D

been there -
done all that for years.
(flywheel lightening - balencing - even moving the oil outlets on various V engines to overcome oil starvation at revs...head machining - block machining - making smaller diameter Vbelt crankshaft pullies to reduce the revs on water pumps - probs lots more too)

BUT - and a very big BUT, WHY on a diesel FFS ?
mine were all on various race engine builds, I put lightened crossflow flywheels on bigger 2litre pinto cranks = very light flywheels but - they were race engines...
my pintos never done much under 3000rpm, but put you back in the seat from 3000 to 7000 rpm - were fun - BUT were race engines....

Oh, they also done about 8 miles per gallon or equivilent :D

Every little helps I'm not on about making it as thin as a rizla that was in the days of the escort mexico those were fun days. Its just a stage of progression there is room for improvement in most things. If you don't try these things we would not move forward just want to improve where possible for many reasons.

I did the same as in your second quote fun though :D A bit quicker throtle response though is always a bonus when ya having a tweak.

Great fun I used to have mk1 mexico's and 1300 gts they were great so many bits you could swap loved it mad gearbox swaps:)

Thought from your other post you had all this sorted :confused::confused:

I said the motor was stock I have just bolted on what I believe is the correct turbo setup for me and modded the pump etc no more than that But i am a long way off finished theres loads of stuff you can improve.:)

:D
2000e gearboxes in my stock cars on the back of 2litre pintos,
gearboxes ran just 1st & 2nd plus reverse.
had anglia axle with choice of.
4.44-1
4.1-1
3.89-1
3.7-1
or
3.5-1 diffs all welded to suit track or conditions
ran just 13inch wheels with either hand cut "speedway" type treads or fine pitch treads on tarmac tracks..

was fun at the time being propelled by lots of oomph all done by myself..

was even more fun with the same engine set up in a mk 3 / 4 / or 5 cortina banger with its welded diffs.
sideways anyone = no problem, the pedal on the right sir.

burton blf 40/41 cam of choice plus other mods too much to mention ;)
