I've just returned from my local motoring outlet, in France, almost empty-handed. I want to change my oil filter, they stock Mann filters, but which one for a 2010 110 2.4 tdci - anyone know?

I seem to be leaking oil from the front axel. I've identified the appropriate oil, but can't seem to get the 13mm square wrench FFS. I want to monitor the situation and then resolve it when I get back to the UK in Feb - too advanced a job for me I'm sure.

For the power steering reservoir, does it really matter which product I use? And antifreeze, presumably it doesn't matter which you use?

Cheers and seasons greetings!

It is a half inch square so you can use a half inch drive ratchet/bar to remove it, you do not need a special tool.

Any PAS/ATF fluid should work in the power steering. mixing them should not cause any problems.

Mixing anti freeze however is different. You will need to use the same anti freeze you have already as they can react badly if you mix different types. Alternatively drain and flush the system and refill completely with an appropriate antifreeze (I am not sure what the spec is for the newer engines)

Cheers dag019. Maybe the antifreeze can wait, it's only 1cm below the cold level ... I'll top up the power steering though as that's near the min. As for the tool for the axle, I've got nothing, gonna try another shop now ... Thanks again.

Two Hopes of getting a half inch spanner in France
Surely the french don't have their own ratchet/socket sizes (1/4, 3/8, 1/2 are standard). If it is the female square drain plug you can just use a standard ratchet in it with no attachment.

Mann have their own web site, that includes a part finder, cross reference and it even tells u your local supplier believe it or not.
As for power steering ATF fluid any brand but be sure it meets the Dexron 3 specification, there's a lot of autos about that don't use that spec of fluid.

Sent from my iPad Air in Madeira.

With help from a very excellent Frenchman, got a 13mm square thing. axle oil topped up, very awkward business, most of the oil ended up on the floor with the rest evenly divided between axle and my clothes. I'm calling it a victory.

I did go to the Mann site, but I admit that I didn't persevere. Returned and found oil filter ref, thanks. Will put that job off as I'm driving family to Andorra on Sunday and the trip is put at risk by attempting first oil/filter change now.

Cheers.

You may find the pas fluid is in fact cold climate fluid, std fluid wont kill it just letting you know.

Socket sets in France are indeed 1/4 - 3/8 - 1/2 inch drive, the sockets themselves of course will be metric.
I usually end up buying filters etc from Paddocks or similar but buy 3 or 4 at a time to offset the post charges.
If I want to get something a bit quicker the I might try https://www.oscaro.com/
To be honest here, depending on the last fluid service, I would want to get it done before a major drive.

Dont know much about french auto spares shops but wasnt there a brit that went over there and set up a LR spares buisiness. It was on one of those moving abroad programs. Some one on here may know where it was based, it may be close to you?
