So the oil & oil filter change didn't go well. Managed to buy Mann filter. Started the job, the oil change was successful, after another trip to shop for a tool to get sump plug out - I'm amassing a lot of tools. Then the filter change... Didn't have a tool to get filter cover off, too late now, so it will have to wait till we get back from our trip to Andorra.

Mr Freedom, before you remove the drain plug from your axel, make sure the filler plug hasn't seized up. if you drain the fluid and then find you can't refill then you will be buggered. Check the filler plug first!!
Excellent point! I wouldn't have thought of that, but I was only topping up on this occasion.

It suddenly occurs to me, that I will not be able to change the filter, next week, without changing the oil again! Not too tragic I suppose. What's more important changing oil or filter, or both equal? The filter must be at least 14k miles old...

You will, all your oil will be in the sump. You will have to top it up by about half a pint, whatever was in the filter.

Here is a picture, seems to be seeping through the bolt at 6 o'clock maybe, or the seem between 5-6 0'clock. A few drops over night, but maybe it would be worse when driving?

Photo didn't work ...
If it’s from the drain or filler plug then it may have been over tightened, a bit of PTFE tape will do the trick.
