Manage to set the static timing with dial gauge. It was 0.91mm and I set it to 0.98mm.(slightly above the standard setting of 0.95mm). But the random fluctuations at idle remains together with the hot start issue. Is it the pump internals? No faults except that 'injection timing value out of expected'.
At same time, the starter motor play half dead when hot and I need to wait more than 1 1/2 hrs to get it started. May be the starter motor brushes need replacing.
For the first time during my ownership, the engine cut suddenly when reversing out of a parking lot. Waited till it got cooled down and the car started promptly. Is this event a signal on pending serious problems?
While searching the web I found this

They talk about a worn pump and the remedy is to replace one of the covers (diamond shape) on the timing advance unit. May be our diesel experts can explain.
Does it have a crank position sensor in the system? The warm start problem sounds suspiciously like you get on a td5 when that sensor is gone.Just a thought I know next to nothing about Rrs

Doubt it.The Crank sensor was replaced about a year ago when I did the chains initially. Recently I replaced the battery and the hot start issue is somewhat tolerable compared to previous position though its still a headache. Nanocom shows only one fault- injection timing out of expected.................

As I say it was just a thought, maybe with just substituting one to take it out if the equation? As I say I know bugger all about Rrs,just the first thing popped into my little brain.Best of luck with it hope you get it sorted soon

First car I've ever seen with the crank in the head!

That was a bit confusing but then I have blank spaces for words sometimes so I assume he just substituted one. But IIRC he said the lower cam timing chain tensioner had broken allowing the chain to jump. At that point I wondered if Kapi had the same issue.

I honestly don't think he's taking notice of what people are trying to say

Bit harsh, I think. When you're learning or don't fully understand it you sometimes need to hear it lots of times in different ways before the penny drops and you see how it all fits together. Especially when the engine doesn't appear to be behaving as you'd expect. I had a mate try to explain a heating layout at the weekend. Damned if I could see what he was on about. Saw a schematic and the penny dropped straight away.

I see what you're saying, not being cruel,he just doesn't seem to get that if it involves timing you have to go back to basics and start from there, I don't understand all that they're telling him but I can see that's what it needs, just because you did something a year ago doesn't mean you don't have to do it again when it's gone wrong
