Just to clarify that point all the interior and exterior bulbs are not led but standard spec.
Looking at the condition of some of them they look to be the original 14 year old bulbs.

I’m leaning towards battery as well but will try more investigating before chucking £100 at a new one.

if i may that as there ordinary bulbs is good replacing the interior bulbs with led ones to save ur battery , along with being brighter

will find a link for u

plus if u do end up with a new battery, this is what many of us have been fitting

https://www.tayna.co.uk/EA1000-Exide-Premium-Car-Battery-017TE-P7488.html

plse let us know how u get on, will be interesting to see what they find on ur alternator

for interior bulbs u just search for Can-bus No Error T10 501 W5W 8 LED interior bulbs

make sure they haven’t got metal surround in the bulbs as they can short out on the bulb holder

i did leave a few old bulbs in as there very bright

u can see the difference from the pic

+1 on that, I've always upgraded by interior bulbs to LED where possible. Can usually do them all for under a tenner on ebay, maybe get a couple spare cause I have had one or two cheap ones go bad and flicker. I also did the same with my speedo cluster bulbs, plus it makes it look nice :D

definitely saves the battery having leds fitted , know if u leave the door open for an hour or so the main battery will be seriously depleted

i dread to think how many bulbs are fitted in my entire dashboard , lol

first lot of interior LED bulbs i bought had a metal casing , touched the inside of the casing in my interior light and started to smoke , cost me a new interior light as in seconds it destroyed it , so always warn other of that metal casing

did also buy a plug in volt /temperature monitor , which gives me a rough idea

Oh dear that looks like fun to change.. as im guessing theres more to it than that one bolt  I've done mine twice on the d2 now, seems its more of knowing what order to undo things in than it being a difficult job :p

it’s also getting bits out of the way in order to get to it, can’t get the lead off until it’s removed

ur like this one, not a lot, got to replace the turbo intercooler hose, how about this for access , last picture , in the centre with the two jubilee clips round it , all the other hose and metal pipe has to come off, inner wheel arch, heat shields ,battery, battery tray, engine heat shields, etc etc lol

Think halfords will test your battery with their tool if you take it to them, might be better telling them you think you need to buy a new battery and then just say you'll leave it once they've tested it. Worked for me before as they are so expensive I wouldn't get it from them.
And I think I'd avoid alternators from the breakers yard, I had mine from once and its starting to go after 6 months or so, well the regulator most likely, sometimes 12.2.. sometimes 14.4.. its a d2 though so the reg is built in to the alt, and they are cheap enough to buy as gary said, but obviously use the warranty if thats the case.
And if need be try and get a good branded battery, I spent £100 on a pos battery over here in Romania and the thing barely holds 12v, 11.4 in the cold.. -20. Guess it was sitting in the shop for a few years.

Be popping over to Halfords one night this week then I reckon if I’m home.
Yer wouldn’t go second hand alternator on this, my off road Disco 1 yes but not this.
But the one on there is only about a month old and a genuine LR item so I’m hoping it isn’t that.

Yes seeing your logic as that being a good idea. Plus look much nicer.

Cheers for the link. With the battery reading 12v when engine off and 14.8v when running makes me think the alternator is doing it’s job and the battery isn’t up to much anymore.

Will have a look for them on eBay thanks.
Had seen a light upgrade kit online which looks to replace most the bulbs with full led units.
Looks very nice but at £80 for the set not exactly cheap.

here some pics, u could say the alternator is rather tight , lol

Yes very tight, not sure how I’m gonna get the voltmeter directly on to the alternator yet.

No need to get meter on the alternator itself just find the other end of the at cable and measure it there.

The Exide battery from Tayna is to bloody dear, exact same item off of ebay 95 quid delivered versus Tayne 150 quid plus 8 quid delivery!

If you get a torch and your phone down towards the alt you can get a pic of it and see what make it is, not land rover but who actually made the unit.

The cheap ebay leds arent much cop, there are better ones i will find the make/link.

Pic of said alt and you can see the main power terminal which is under the red cover

Led bulbs, search ebay/amazon for (Vanssi 501 w5w), kits of ten you will need more than 1 kit to do the interior lights, same bulbs also for n-plate and the front sidelights which match the xenons perfectly.

did wonder where the connection was made on the alternator, ie back or top

apologises asking a daft question, if i may ask how do u normally test them and what settings do u put ur meter on plse

think next time i may get a varta battery, had them before on other landies and have been fine, just can’t believe in how power hungry they are

will be interesting to see when i get this faulty solonoid replaced on my split charge system in how much longer it will last

Other end of cable, got it. Will go hunt that down.

Yes first thing I did was look on eBay and find one for £100. So will do that if I need one.

Right will do that when I’m next home.

Had no end of problems in the past with cheap led’s and the number plate ones on the missus Mondeo constantly flicker.
Was why I was looking at the one in the above link. Actually replace the whole unit in most cases instead of the bulb.
Down side is expensive.

Yes I wasn’t sure on alternator connection either.

If also like to know that.

You have a split charge system? Like the idea of that myself. Where is your second battery?

Do you mean using them in the parking/side lights? I had very similar bulbs on my side lights and they really weren't too bright, they were just standard ebay w5w bulbs.

apologies, should have said, mean the interior lights being too bright

i did by mistake mix up an interior led with a sidelight led, and thought christ almighty , my eyes, my eyes , lol

was all part of learning where some had more leds than others, didn’t know that when i first looked at them
