Hi all
last week my freelander 2 decided not to start after working fine. Fault message said HDC fault. After checking the forums I decided to replace the battery. Its a 2008 model with original battery so couldnt do any harm. Fitted it today and it almost started but wont fire up. Called the AA. Mechanic said it was listing muliplr fault codes all relating to air intake. Its now in the garage to get checked over. Anyone had similar issues?

The battery was likely on its last legs as you were getting the old HDC failure, special programmes off message. However the non start fault would depend on what exact codes were showing. These are complex vehicles, so code numbers are vital in diagnosis. If the top of my head, I'd guess that the tank pump had failed, however without the exact codes, that's just a guess.

Hi
Thanks
Mechanic said ecu was working and fuel pressure was ok, he thought it was definately an air intake issue. First code related to air con fault another was intake valve was shut.

Also depends on what sort of diags he used? As some diagnostic software can display a load of old bollocks, and send you on a while goose chase..Id be suprised if the rescue services have decent kit..

Yeah, that's a complex vehicle and without proper direction you can be hanging parts off them until your wallet is flat. Remember what the fault codes were by any chance?

I have seen an intake valve stuck shut with gum and this would indeed stop it starting.

ok
garage says car was running fine this morning but they were going to change an airflow sensor.
Now they have new codes coming up and are suggesting a specialiast garage.
B10A2 crash input
PO2E9 diesel intake airflow position sensor- cicuit high
PO2E5 diesel intake airflow control-stuck closed
any thoughts?

That B10A2 ... If that was a code in memory it might just be random junk from a flat battery or the techs messing about.

Land Rover mechanic i know just said that he thinks its probably the throttle body as well. Will give it a go then.

And the B1A02 fault code can be caused by old software in the CJB and can cause non start (it's crash mode flag)

But also looks like you have a throttle body problem.

UPDATE: REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY BUT DIDNT HELP. THE IMMOBILISER WONT GO OFF. ANYONE KNOW HOW TO RESET THE IMMOBILSER?

its definately the immobiliser.
Tried disconnecting battery and coonecting the cables together.
Alarm did reset and engine started briefly and shut down again and immobiliser wont go off again. Did it twice with same effect.
Looks like it will need to get reset on the computer.
