Has anybody fitted cruise control to the above vehicle if so are there any pit falls...
There are several kits offered on Ebay which claim to contain all the switches (genuine LR bits) and am being told that all the wiring etc is in place. 'All' you have to do is cut the hole in the steering wheel surround for the switches.

Did my 2000 ES last year; just need need the switch and controller for the steering wheel; you will also need a small bracket to hold this controller but it should come supplied. pitfalls; cut the hole in the steering coloumn carefully, and try not to have the air bag explode! Total time 1 hour.

Tip. stole the wifes makeup mirror to rest against the binnicle so that I could see the screws on the back of the wheel.

**** easy job... plenty of references on this site just search them out... did mine in under an hour..including the 15mins of airbag powerdown time!

only scary part is removing the air bag and cutting a hole in the steering wheel. follow all advice in here and you'll be fine. Check out LR for genuine parts. you just need two switches and the mounting plate(which should come with it) expect to pay about £9+ for the 'binnacle switch' and £30+ for the 'steering wheel' one from a main stealer...

simply cut a hole, plug em in... go drive a motorway!

Main stealer said he would fit cruise control to my Disco TD5 for only £840.

I saved £800 ...............

Robbing bastards.

Guys,
thanks for the tips. this little job will added to the DIY list.

CharlesY-"Main stealer said he would fit cruise control to my Disco TD5 for only £840" - I certainly won't be offering any one that sort of money to do it.

best regards

I fiited Cruise to my 2000 TD5. 2nd hand switches cost R285 (£19) and they threw in the strg whl cowl as well! Really easy to do taking under 1hr including the wait for the A/Bag, just plug in and go. What a pleasure when driving on the freeways!!

Anybody know where I can get the backing plate for the steering wheel switch, as the kit I bought ain't got one in!

Hense the £840 price tag, the dealers dont sell the switch with the back plate. If you buy the switch you get just the switch.

Stealers fit a whole new wheel including airbag. . . .the wheel alone is £500.

Got my kit off ebay but I made sure the plate came with it, kit cost just over £40 and yes all wiring is in place so its a 20 minute job to fit.

You can copy back plate for the stereo switch back to front of course ... or sell your kit on ebay to someone who doesn't read view this site and buy one with the plate included.

Hi, i have just fit the kit to my TD5 very easy.
Local dealer in Lancashire quoted me one hundred and thirteen pounds all in including the bracket.

Yes, I fitted one, mines Manual, works a treat. Takes about an hour to fit (I had never moved an airbag so I took my time)...
