Just purchased a Freelander TD4 (52), which I`m really enjoying. But am also going a bit mad with add ons, accessories etc. One of which will soon be a CB Radio. I am going for a unit that is as small as possible e.g TEAM ME-4 or MOONRAKER MINOR ,cheap and cheerfull. I would like to permenantly fit the unit, but somewhere that looks neat and preferably out of site (if needed). The only place I can really find is in the glove compartments (passenger and driver side). Will probably need a bit of hole drilling for aerial wire etc. So my question is, has anybody fitted a cb into a Freelander that looks nice and neat (Photos would be great). Will also go for a mag mount aerial (just so I can remove it when required), so any advice on best place to run cable (sun roof, rear windows etc) would be great...
 
in cubby box between front seats, or just under (it won't go inside without a massive carve up) the sunglass/oddments holder just above the rearview mirror. There is a cable route from here across the headlining to the windscreen pillars, then down the windscreen pillar and across or behind the dash depending on how permanent you want it to be. Handy for the aerial too, just pop it out the sunroof.

OR, pull off the rubber mat on the dash in front of the clock (comes off real easy), then you can (carefully) screw the cb bracket to the dash there, handy to plug into cigarette lighter, route aerial cable as above. The when your not using it, just unscrew and replace the rubber mat.

I'm a lucky man vic, bingo.
 
i have mine in the useless cubby hole they call a sunglasses holder above the rear view mirror. i managed to get a spare from a broken one. cut that up a bit to make it fit. a doddle to do. ran 12v upto it and mag threw the roof.

sunglasses holder my arse..... whats the hole for......utter wast of time.
 
apparently the midland alan 42 is a good one, although not tried it myself.
its a handheld that will run on batteries, but you can get a car kit that has a power lead and connector for external aerial.
this gives you effectively everything in the handset without having to worry about a main unit to fit.

Thanks for all your ideas etc. Have spent most of this morning trying the unit in different locations, making sure I could see and reach the controls ok. Also wanted to make sure I could run the cables without much being on show...

And several hours later, I think I have the ideal place, its pretty straight forward really and I have run a fish wire down a sneaky hole in the dash to make sure I can run the relevant cables...

I will post some photos once complete, so that anyone else having the same conundrum as me, will have something to go on...

might be wrong, but I thought it was to do with the volumetric alarm sensor....

(ready to be corrected)

or is it where you put the emergency winding key through for the electric sunroof, standard part so you get it like that whether you have an electric sunroof or not...

Doobreydog, I`m liking that... The aerial looks very neat, but where did you get the actual rig console, rubber housing thing ?

Long story really (not) but was looking round in shed for something like card or plastic to trace curves as had planned to build similar in fibreglass and came up with this....:)

99p plastic bowl & 10 minutes work using SWAG method to cut into contours plus time for paint to dry:eek: ...now covered in velcro fabric so I can sling phones/pmr/etc and find them later.
 
also if you hae the roof bars these are a good place to fit an ariel if you dont wnat to drill the boddy. use a mirror mount and put on longer (bent) bolts
 
Clever stuff...For a washing up bowl :) ... Just tried placing my magmount on roof, but those damn ridges in the roof mean I have to place towards the back of the roof, but even then the roof tapers away so it doesnt sit perfectly flat... bugger.

Will this affect the grounding do you think ?
Will it be strong enough to hold and not pull off in the wind ?

Roof bar mount is an idea...Hmmmm

Theres more to this CB malarky than meets the eye.....

Your roof bars won't give you any ground as they are plasic coated been there done that!
 
or buy a behind the spare wheel mount and I can tell you how to get the coax through without drilling or going over the seals of the doors

Hi,
Picking up on this old thread, could Teddywood 1 tell us how to feed the aerial wire through, and also how does the sunglasses holder come out. I have taken the rings out, but it still seems as though the liner is attached to something - don't want to be too rough in case its damaged
