Thinking of buying a tow-bar of ebay and fitting it myself...

How hard is fitting a tow-bar (got a 2002 td4 s/w)? Are all the holes pre-drilled?

Are the electrical connections already there?

Does anyone have a breakdown of how to do it?

From what I have seen of the underside at the back. There are predrilled holes which I assume is where you fit towbars, back box guards etc:) Also seem to remember seeing on the lift kit instructions a black box gizmo underneath the rear drivers side panel in the boot which is apparentley fitted to certain models for tow bar use. Haven't got one in mine so I don't know what it is called or what you'd have do if its not there:rolleyes:

Hi Shotgun ,its quite a simple job i think most earthling could manage it,it is quite heavy so ya might need an assistant, the leccy bit to me was easy peasy but then i'm a rocket man :D ,got mine orft e bay some years ago mind, and the company was tow equipe or summit, very good all the correct destructions and wiring, but remember if ya buy private,ta check the bolts holdin the tow hitch, must be high tinsile type, best oh luck. . .:)

Cheers ming...

So I take it the electrics just plug in to things that are already there, or am I going to be cutting wires and splicing back together?

And the bolt holes are already in place?

Looks like a job for a Bank Holiday weekend to me... :D

Yo
Lecky plug-type thingies were there on my V6.

I woz told tho to fit a removable tow bar as a fxed one interferes with the reversing sensors - load of cods - cost me arm and leg and dont interfere no sirree. just £180 incl fitting

Hi its a doddle it took me an hour and saved me loads of money, no wires to cut no holes to drill, thats the beauty of LR! The hardest bit was finding the plug to connect the electrics to, it was tucked up where I couldn't see it, any questions please ask. Suggest that you have some one to help lift in place.
Good luck.

In LR mag you get a Quick Release job for about 100 knicker:) The ball releases leaving the cross bar in place.
Thinking of getting one myself so let me know how you get on Shotgun.
If I do fit one I'm definately gonna fit a swivel eye to each end of the cross bar for recovery.;)

caint ya use the tow bar then?

yo file is still being transmitted - 4hours now:eek: - looks like it cud be a romsey job if thats ok, unless yu need it fust?

Shotgun ,it will take a morning ta fit ,and yes all the holes are there ya might have ta prod round ta find them, pit sorry ment tip. . .spray all pre taped threads wiv wd40 and run the bolts through it first, the wiring is all on the rear rhs as ya look in rear door ,undo the plastic bit on the floor 4 hex bolts, undo the rhs plastic cowell [bit of a fiddle but it will come orft] under that is all yer wiring, tip [2] you can at this stage poke ya cable through a grommet at the bottom and crimp splice or connectors, but for bout £14 lr can get yer a made up connector to just push in[this is never sold by the tow ball companys] i feel this is the best method as it then uterlises the cars internal instruments, however as far as i know lr never supplyed a aux 12v supply used for some caravaners for a constant power supply. . .best oh luck:)

No probs MHM. What day you gonna be there?
Was hopng to go to bognor on 27th for a days orf rodeoin. 150Acre site parantly:D should be fun. Tried tightening the bearing but its not going anywhere. Not surprising as it not a tapered bearing. Gonna have ta look for mech to do it now I have the part:(

i will be there in the 28th (Bank holi Monday). do yu git up to Basingstoke at all? if so yu can collect..

all fitting instructions can be found on Stanley towbars web site for the towbar all wires are tucked away on the rhs behind the steel work a plug in kit can be bought but easier to scotch lock into harnesse(and a lot cheeper). change flasher unit relay for a 4 pin unit and the dash light will work so no anoying buzzer.for the second socket all that is needed is a live from the battery and a new style relay.
15 years of towbar fitting behind me so any problems let me know
Conner.

yer black box thingy is a by pass relay it for those vehickeels that have a bulb failure system. without it yer bulb failure klight on yer dash would be lit everytime to connect yer trailor.

LR do a kit for the supplementary electrics - contains two relays, lengths of blue and red wire (charging and fridge supply) and all the brackets and bolts to fit. Also contains the yellow and white wires for reverse lights etc. I can find you a part number if you need.

Regards,

Steve
