Hips, so you went and splashed the cash...... So when you taking receipt of this lovely new motor??? U gonna post a pic when you've got it!!

Theirs a nice looking 08 Disc in my local garage and I keep turning my head when I pass, not sure what the spec is at I keep driving, but must admit it's a little bit of a tease just sitting there winking at me......... I can't change it get......... Can I....!

And yes some prat I work with has just scratched my car! He put a full lock on so he could get out of the parking space next to mine and bang n/s front bumper has a big dull patch now, GREAT. Mined you his car has a 70cm mark running along his now. Will have to see if elbow and polish work or I might just have to sell it!

Just a little:boink:at you Angus. But ok here goes .Can a USA GPS be changed to work in the UK? As i have 2 for vehicles and 1 for the water ways here.:)

Great install and thread Angus. Might be something I attempt in the future.

I believe it will, soon, be an MOT fail.

Just thought I'd lend my 2p to this one.
Technically, yes, the HID kit fails on construction and use regulations - your lense was built for an incandescent bulb, the HID kit produces a far more intense light and thus headlamps need to be self levelling (or the vehicle have self levelling suspension) and have lense cleaners fitted to comply.

BUT....I've got an HIDs4U kit on my Saab 9-3 and that passed an MOT with no problem last Monday. If a copper pulls you over about your lights, chances are they'll have no idea about construction and use regulations and, even if they do, worst case scenario, you get your car re-mot'd for them and put standard bulbs in.

Provided the beam cast and pattern are correct it'll take the MOT fine.

Your still a dick, but to answer the question, yes a USA unit will work in the UK you'd just need to update the maps.

Thank you, and a big one at that. How do you do a map up date, as i don't know what you mean. And where would you get the updates from? Add would there be any cost incurred in doing this? thank you Mr Angus

It all depends on what systems you already have. If your units run on Winc then any of the maps for IGO or Navtec etc will work as they all work on the same format, it's just the program (IGO ETC) that changes the image defaults so you get a different feel for their own version.

My unit was imported from the US and I'm running maps for UK and Europe I just wiped the US as I didn't need it and installed my own.

Updates can be obtained via retail or the net........ You can work that one out....... even though your from the States!

As for the install of updates, as it's all stored on a SD card, pop it in your PC, open up the Map folder Deleted all and Paste new updates. Thats it.

just waiting for SANTAND"SLOW" to hurry up with their bank transfer before i can collect it ! :p

Keep up the good work Tel, once it's done you'll be a happy man.

So did you go down the centre or around the side with the Rev cable? Not sure about how easy the seats tilt on the 5 door but on the 3 it wasn't that bad to lift the carpet near the centre console, the hardest part I think is messing on with the wires in the door once you've fitted the camera.

Finally finshed installing the reversing camera.
I ran the Video cable down the drivers side under the sill trims and poped out in the corner behind the lights.

The power from the camera was easy as the cables are all in the corner - quick clip and sorted

Reverse feed for head unit was taken from the lady sensor (Reversing sensor) switch wire above the fuse box.

No problems with passing through reversefor drive as there is a 2/3 second delay before the lady sesors come on.

The only pain in the a*?e was the fitting of the camera itself
I was determined NOT to removed the bumper - Bad idea.
I now have 50% less skin on my hand...

I drilled the bumper central only to find another plastic frame work behind.
Drilled through that....;)

Came to fit camera and struggled to get lock ring on...this is where removing the bumper would come in handy..

Got it fitted but will still need to remove bumper sometime just to ensure lock ring is secure....

Well pleased with quality of picture even has coloured lines for judging distance. :blabla:

Good work, didn't I say you'd have a delay for image to come up so no worries about changing stick.

Never thought to ask what sort of Camera you were fitting, so from your write up you went and got a nice circle Camera which fits flush like the reverse sensors..... Had thought about that but then opt for height and slightly less of a mess on after looking under my own bumper.

So you'll be happy that now like me you can reverse back into the patch of rain! (Very Old Joke)

I'll have a look at pic tonight, works PC wont show it.....

I've had a look at the one in my local garage and they want £17k. It all looks good but I'm going to sit tight for the moment, if it was a picking comp it's either a Disco or Big Conservatory the winner would be the house as we need the space...... At the moment I'm happy with the Freeby.....?
