Telaren - dunno why you'd need an accelerator feed? Some units use the pulse from the abs circuit (gala feed) but thats on VAG cars usually? As for the handbrake feed, if you connect it to the handbrake the dvd player will not work with the handbrake off (VIM -Vehicle In Motion) so just attach to the earth - negative) and the unit will always think the handbrake is on so your (ahem) passengers can watch dvd's whilst the car is moving ;)

Anguslives... I will drop some pics on a thread later (just finished a nightshift - yawn) but having looked at your rear camera install the headrests will be a doddle mate, the wires just fell down the back of the seat without any real guidance, once you've unclipped the bottom of the backrest cover it'll all become clear :) I'll have a nosey at the native 32 disks and run a couple of cop.....er backups for you to try if you like ;) pm me your addy and i'll send em on...

Hippo...thats why i was asking the expert (anguslives) about different navi software that runs on wince 5.0 cos I was thinking 40 quid was alot of money for an sd card with cracked s/ware on it!

Expert haha I like it!! You can bow in my presence....... All hail Angus!!

Cracked at £40 is badish, for an original is a very good price, but as mentioned cracked is way better..... Orig always comes on a 2GB but if your unit can take more and you've a cracked V then put it on a bigger card.... Makes sense yes!

Does the units you and Hippo are getting have nav software? I can prob knock something up, I'm also getting Pro soon but I think IGO is better.

As for the handbreak option, might fail MOT like that, I would install a switch hidden somewhere either behind console or in centre console either in cubby holder or under the little square trim next to handbreak. Well that's what I'm doing anyhow....

As for the seats, yep your right pulled off one headrest last night and feed a long wire down and your totally right, went down down down, so I guess it's just taking off the cover clip and the bottom and getting your hand up! So do you slide your hand up between the padding? That's what I'm now thinking.... I know I'll find out when they arrive but I do like asking questions!!!!!

Taken out of text but doesn't it sound bad hahaha!

You know when you type something and at the time looks and sounds fine! Well I can't remember:rolleyes:

hehehe yeah it does a bit doesn't it...a bit reminiscent of James Herriott with his arm up a cows backside! hate to think what your daughter would've made of that at the farm lol

Once you've unclipped the backrest cover, which is just a case of stretching it down a bit then lifting it away from a trim that runs across the bottom of the seat the cable will just fall out, the only place it might snag is about 4 inches down from the top as there is a little bit of padding there but just shove your arm up if it does! Honestly mate, I wasn't joking when I said it was unbelievably easy to do lol moist of the headrest come with 10mm poles already fitted and its just our luck that this is the size we need so all good there as well! haven't had chance to look at the native disc yet but i'll let you know whats on it when i do....

hippo...have a nosey at this one....

He's not gonna thank ya for that, given he's just paid £200 that's if he did....? Time will tell on this one me thinks.

I've had a go with seat and again your right, got a cable opened the bottom cover put me hand up and got cable, simple!! Thought it would have been harder than that!! And people charge £125 for fitting "your havin a larf"

I take it you fitted your power from rear of centre console? If you did are you going to have relocate power to front or buy extra AV cables??? Or have it set up as stand alone? I'm guessing yours will take a picture feed from own built in DVD (AV1) and then external DVD (AV2 - for DVD/GPS/CD unit) I think that's how they'll all work.

Have you tried FM settings yet, I think that's handy, the IR phones can be a little hit miss if you turn your head or cover earphones with your hands but overall they're good, you could always get a jack set and plug em in.

I'm also thinking about putting a power control switch at the front, not that I think the kids wont leave a screen on by accident.....! Errrr yes they will.

Don't think he's bought one yet, I think he's waiting to make sure his navi software will work on it and then he'll get it without the nav stuff so 40 holes cheaper :)

Took my power from the centre console (the one around the handbrake) its a bit taller in the 5 door so I managed to get all the main cabling tucked in nicely and all hidden so all i've got is 2 black wires from the lower inner corners of the seat which then tuck under the centre console so all nice and neat :D the power supply is switched live so will only work with the key in position 1 cos my kids would leave them on!!! I've got the av out of the left unit into the av in of the right hand one, this then leaves 1 more av in which would take the feed from the head unit. I did quickly try the fm transmitter...it was ok but a little quiet but need to have a proper play with it cos mine are down the 88 end which is radio 2ish so might get a bit of interference? Mine have got built in speakers tho and to be honest they were loud enough for the kids to hear without being annoying in the front, haven't tried the ir headphones but as you say, they can be hit n miss. Still not sure whether I'm gonna get one yet though, will whip out the head unit and try a pioneer i've got lying around just to see how the HK system handles it :(

Forgot your units have built in speakers, mine don't/wont when then they arrive!

So by the sounds of yours you can feed one DVD to the other? That's handy if they both wanna watch the same thing! Less fighting mind I'd change it back!! haha:rolleyes:

What I was thinking was if I was in car alone driving along, the DVD units would have power to them, I was thinking if I put a switch in I would control if the units are fed the power or not, would extend the life I'd think as no current flowing. Overkill perhaps!

Heads up with the FM, -88 is standard for these things, you should have a option in your menu to turn up/down the volume which you can set as the auto level or turn up/down via remotes, but yes the old issue is if signal is lost for a second (bridge/tree's etc) you would also loose the sound, but it does make interesting listening for the driver!

Well I've been told the units should arrive sometime this week, they chucked them on fastest service for me (bless) so who knows I could be fitting it all at the weekend!?

Personally I wouldn't bother getting a new unit if it didn't have GPS, you'd only use the radio/CD/Bluetooth how often would you play a DVD for the peeps in the front? DVD is in my opinion only to support DVD headrests in the back!

Also going back on discussions, GPS option pays for itself, no more charges or having to replace units to keep upto date!! Let me know what's on yours some of my gear might be compatable...

Didn't buy my unit yet off eBay
Still unsure about if it's going to take the Navigon sat nav software on it ??

It's £200 for the unit without maps or another £40 for the maps !
I want my own software on it I'm just not sure if it will take it ?

Tell me which unit your wanting and what Nav you currently have and I'll tell you if it's a go or a no go......

Haven't we done this already???? I need a coffee.

I soo want one of these but look to complicated to fit :-(

Honestly they are easy, the hardest part is picking what jobs you want it to do and then picking one at a good price!!

They fit like a normal radio and the headrest are a doddle too, all in it can be a couple of hours nothing major at all, you just match up the colour plugs and sides (left or right) and it's done. You could always ask I'm sure you know someone who's fitted a radio once upon a time....

Very interested in this as well, can these be fitted if a Harmon Kardon is installed?

Regards

Yeah mate, got them hooked to each other so they can both watch the same thing or use independantly and still have an av in socket left to hook up to the front unit if I get one. they've also got an sd card, usb and av out port on the front as well so they pretty well do everything you'll ever need lol

As i said earlier I've powered them from a switched live so the ignition needs to be at position 1 before they are supplied with power but even then they are only in standby until you actually turn the units on with the remote control or power button on the screen so fitting a switch might be a bit ott buddy ;)

If I do get a double din it will deffo be a gps unit, as you said, all the other things are nice to have but you might as well get the nav sytem as it will probably prove the most useful :)

right then, i'll go and get the native disks and have a look at them for ya.....

I've got HK so will be doing a bit of testing with a standard single din pioneer head unti just to see how it works with the HK. No one actually does an iso adapter for the HK so I'll keep you posted.....

Cheers dude, I've not been able to find a working link for Flash UI and the website I have found there's like a billion of them all for dif jobs! Errrr which one? So when you get some info let me know:)

Well I just picked up my freelander today and am as chuffed as can be.
But mine is the 3door van. I would only need the sat nav and Bluetooth for my iPhone to play music and calls. Anything else is a bonus. The stereo in it is the standard one. But know nothing about wiring in this stuff. Are they all plug in type or is it individual wires?

The 3door,5door or 3door van:) are all wired the same for sound so you wont have any issues with that. Most units come with a standard plug which fits most cars, if it doesn't fit, you can normally buy an adapter from Ebay for a couple of pounds so again it's not a problem.

Depending on year of your Freebee you can get a single or double din unit, as the later models went onto being doubles, the earlier models are singles. you can still buy a fancy unit but instead of it having a screen on display (double) all the time it slide out when you want to use it and slides back in when you dont!(single).

Headrests would be a bit of a waste of time for you, but yes you'd also get a wire for Ipod, most sellers inc these days.

Ok mine is a 54.
So if I wanted one that slides in and out and does all I want. Which one of the fue we have seen on here would you suggest. And would it depend on what age my "freebee" is to which I could have?
Oh and what a hk??

Errrrr........... haha OK 54reg is Double din, so it's the big one, you can get either a fixed screen or a one you can unclip for security. What price would you be looking at?

yes i know, £40 is alot for the software !

i have ordered the model that doesnt include the maps. as im sure ill get my own maps running on it (with your help !)

i asked the seller what maps they are selling with the included map model, they have a piece of software called "Sygic" on it.

so i thought, ohh must be rubbish, but looked on the net and it looks like some really neat maps.

have a look yourself: http://www.sygic.com

the maps look really cool, they actully have the whole road and surroundings mapped out, including rivers, buidings etc...

it dont look bad.

so i'll download my self a version of this "sygic" - at least i know my head unit will take this software.

but ill also try and get navigon running on it or even tom tom live :p

what versions do i need to download to get it to run on these units ??

its not like the .IPA file system that the iphone uses is it ???

thanks mate !

Do i need to downlaod the sat nav version for windows based systems like windows mobile ?? as this is the navigon version for Windows mobile - will this work ??? http://www.navigon.com/portal/uk/shop/software/produkt.html?produktFamilieId=14861&produktId=7953326

hope to get mine installed at the weekend if it ever turns up ! :p:p:p
