Angus, could do with some info on the igo8 nav software if poss bud? Been looking at units but they are around 40 quid more supplied with maps on an sd card so if I can get the igo8 or any windows ce 5.0 compatible ones for (ahem) free then that'll be a bonus

OK so if you've looking into IGO8 you may have noticed this run on Wince5.0 upwards.
So it mean if you try to use on anything (inc smartphones) and it doesn't have wince then it wont work.
If you've seen a unit and it comes complete with SD card loaded with IGO what you need to know is two things. 1 is the card an original card from IGO. or 2 a cracked version (normal shop bought SD card).
If it's original your not going to be able to copy or update files as you wish unless you sign up with IGO. The cracked version you can update this either via forums like underground etc and download maps POI etc, again you can also upload things for others.
As many people update their own maps a few times a year adding POI etc they kindly upload these for other to download and use therfore giving you that extra information about a new road, estate, speedcam.
OK that's the basic stuff. Then you've got options for skins, this is only avail with the cracked versions, some peeps designed some new skins (backgrounds, layouts etc) and again made avail to the public.
Right so you've gotta choose which way is forward £40 isn't a bad price about normal is this via fleebay? Ask the questions to the seller and find out if it's transferable onto another SD card. I know of issues depending on what opp system you have on your PC, alot of these come from overseas and they tend to be on a slightly uncommon SD card to UK, you'd prob have to pick up a new adapter and as they are pricey hang on they're £00.50p markish this will allow your PC to read the card. (again fleebay)
Let me know more details of the one you've looked at, IGO is a good system to have 2D and 3D screens and loads of settings, trip comp, etc it's well worth a dabble!!
I need to know what the unit is your looking at also, as IGO has screen rez settings it's gotta match, EG if my screen was bigger than yours and you wanted a copy of mine, I'd need to F on with the background settings or it wouldn't open on your unit.... This software can be tailored to fit your needs and choices, load screens, styles, speedwarnings etc. So if you wanted to use IGO but didn't want to see IGO's screensaver you could replace it with a picture your mother, it's that changable!!
And as mentioned if you have a phone that got wince on (like Nokia) you can install it on there too and choose other travel mode, options are walking, bike, car, etc....
