After a very long search I have finally bought a series 3 With 12 months mot on it , one thing the owner was very honest about is that the door is sagging slightly because lower door pillar is rotten , can this be patch from abouve hinge to below or is it going to be a nightmare of a job.

Cheapest option would be prefered

Might be patchable but if bad enough to make the door sag then you can get a complete door pillar repair section Land Rover Defender & Series 2 & 3 Lower Door Pillar o/s - YRM Metal Solutions

It might bring into question how valid a 12 month mot is though

yes i would be worried about that, makes you wonder what else they have missed, i would put a new door pillar in

At least that part looks cheap , can it bee welded in by removing door or does the whole bulkhead have to come off?

I've just replaced both of the door pillars on mine, have a look at the bottom of page 6 and then page 7 of this for pictures of what to expect.

If I purchased a replacement pillar and walked into a garage with it has anybody got some sort of idea how much they would charge me to put it in ? obviously depends on garage but rough estimate

It will be cheaper to buy a mig welder and do it your self. imho.
