By "screw jacks" do you mean scissor jacks? I have no jack for my defender, and i've never seen an original part so excuse what might sound like a stupid question. And whereabouts in Cumbria are you? Anywhere near Ambleside for picking up rather than posting?

No they're original screw jacks they supplied with the army landrovers, they're about the same size as a bottle jack but work on screw rather than hydraulics

Looks like the series one but not as nice

I'm only in bowness so not far at all! You'll probably have seen my landrover knocking about

I wouldn't buy one of them lol ive got two sat in my office to be disposed of. Nice to look at as part of a vehicles breakdown kit but stuff ever using one, bloody dangerous things

genuine question -why dangerous? I can see that scissor jacks could be, but a proper screw jack seems pretty bulletproof. In any case, I wouldn't get under a motor without axle stands at least.

The base plate is tiny and in no way adequate to support a two ton vehicle let alone change a wheel when it's supported by it. Bear in mind that in a normal military breakdown kit there are no axle stands

Youre only sayin that so you can sell them :p. Bin em Barney, they're dodgy as feck. Why do you think the army don't use them anymore

I can see what you mean - there would have to be a danger of being shot at to get under something supported by just that. Shame you're not coming to the weekend bash - I would have had one off you for the price of a pint:D

I'll use them at home if they don't sell........not hard to weld a larger plate onto the base if you want to be safer

But I could use one quite happily just to get it airborne and then secure with axle stands - I'll be happy with that. Can you let me know your address or phone number i'll pick it up this weekend if youre about.
